So-cal...You know, I don't understand this, at all. So-called "social anxiety" is trivial to deal with, using talking therapies - we even have a rough idea of why talking therapies work - talking to somebody who is skilled in such things *requires* us to think in a different way, thus creating new neuroconnections, and if the stuff that is suggested solves the problem, then there is no problem, anymore. That is a real, observable phenomenon.

On the other hand, we have drugs, which don't work, and yet have bogus theories that are widely accepted by mental healthcare professionals to the effect that they *do* work. It's beyond my understanding.

MattRadagasthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14286529284742690239noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10459981.post-59010751642866207402009-02-01T10:00:00.000+00:002009-02-01T10:00:00.000+00:00Oh wow! My daughter's friend and classmate the same age she was in 1999 (age 11) was given Paxil for Social Anxiety!

He went to the same summer camp my daughter did, and his mother received a phone call in the middle of the night to come pick her son up, because he was threatening to jump off of a cliff, was suicidal. At age 11 on Paxil in 1999 for Social Anxiety--how about being a 5th grade student and having everyone know you tried to kill yourself on Paxil? That's a little worse than anxiety!

Ironically, my daughter and he ended up in the same psych hospital as 11 yr olds. Both came out of that hospital with a Biederman Bipolar child diagnosis!!!soulful sepulcherhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17261822295337908901noreply@blogger.com
