You may have made my point for me - things are rarely so important that they can't wait 24 hours!

Truthman: Ah, the infamous "double bind". Every message that one is receiving, from manufacturer, regulator and clinician is that the drug is a cutting edge treatment, and perfectly safe. The only countermanding message that one has (before one starts researching it, that is), is one's own experience, which one has been taught to doubt.

And so one continues to take the drug, not really believing that the thing is working, but terrified that one will experience withdrawal (that being one of the side effects that one has been told about), or else a recurrence of one's depression, or whatever. One is warned against ceasing the drug without supervision, and so on, and so on. All that one wants is for somebody to tell one the Truth, provide some real, reliable guidance, but nobody's got anything: the experts are clueless.

Massive confusion, lack of clarity, lack of leadership, lack of any real idea of what is required, or if there is, that idea is being withheld. The whole system isn't fit for purpose, as far as I can see, and the proof of that is that lots of patients are suffering trauma (and complaining), and nobody's doing anything about it. And the horror of it is that I suspect they're doing nothing, because it is in their interests to do nothing. As it is mine.

MattRadagasthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14286529284742690239noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10459981.post-53935413471426155172009-06-25T01:36:12.611+01:002009-06-25T01:36:12.611+01:00The difference between heroin addicts and Seroxat(...The difference between heroin addicts and Seroxat(SSRI) addicts is Seroxat Addicts were never warned of the dangers and addictive qualities of Seroxat...

Safe and effective..
My bloody arse..Truthman30https://www.blogger.com/profile/13472167017897959954noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10459981.post-5280781654936712172009-06-24T19:00:11.726+01:002009-06-24T19:00:11.726+01:00Wrong time not to logon Matt as I'm working on...Wrong time not to logon Matt as I'm working on something that requires much research.

I guess we are all creatures of habits when it boils down to it. Thing is, I could choose not to do something and give in to the agitation caused by that refusal. Whereas, choosing not to take a drug that I am used to taking, really never was a choice I had because of the consequences caused by withdrawal.

Good to see you back Matt

FidFidhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07329260132388791267noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10459981.post-65013439525965334952009-06-24T16:53:34.180+01:002009-06-24T16:53:34.180+01:00It's astonishingly easy to establish a habit.....It's astonishingly easy to establish a habit... Indeed, there is a debate in my mind as to whether *any* substance is addictive, in and of itself, but that's another matter.

Once one has done a certain thing, for a certain period (the thing and the period will presumably be peculiar to the individual), then it becomes part of one's pattern, and attempting to interrupt/abandon that pattern can create unease, perhaps to the point of anxiety.

I tell you what, Bob. Tomorrow, don't log on - don't go on your computer, at all. It can't hurt, can it? And you can't possibly be addicted to going online, can you? But I've a suspicion that you'll start to feel agitated, once you've reached that point in your behavioural cycle/pattern when you should have paid at least one visit to your keyboard.

Don't push it, incidentally... When you feel uncomfortable, logon, and do what you would normally do. But understand the nature of addiction, and how drugs are sold, just that little bit better.

MattRadagasthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14286529284742690239noreply@blogger.com
