An Answer from The Hansard Society... of sorts

You may remember last week I learned that the Hansard Society was funded by at least 3 major pharmaceutical companies, namely: GLAXOSMITHKLINE, ELI LILLY & PFIZER LTD.

I sent them an email highlighting three stories from the press, each relating to the above mentioned. A copy was also sent to my MP. I asked them if they thought it was morally correct to recieve funds from these three companies. Below is their reply

Dear Mr Fiddaman,

Thank you for your email of March 11.

The Hansard Society is an independent, non-partisan, charitable organisation which exists to promote democracy and strengthen Parliament. Like other charities, we receive financial support from a wide variety of sources, including business, trusts and foundations, Parliament and government and have working partnerships with a range of other organisations.

In all our dealings with external partners we strictly adhere to a code of engagement designed to clarify the grounds upon which the Hansard Society is able to enter into working partnerships with other organisations. To this end, we do not publish work which advances views or conclusions contrary to our mission; nor do we act as a lobbyist for any cause, company or organisation.

The Hansard Society has over 60 years’ experience of partnerships with a diverse range of organisations to support our core mission.

Yours sincerely,
Hansard Society

I would like to take this opportunity to thank my MP, Gisela Stuart, for contacting The Hansard Society on my behalf, however Gisela Stuart MP is not of the opinion that these three companies have acted immorally.

The mind boggles doesn't it?

More on the Hansard Society and its supporters

Last week I learned that our own Government's Hansard Society was funded by at least 3 major pharmaceutical companies, namely: GLAXOSMITHKLINE, ELI LILLY & PFIZER LTD.

I wrote to the Hansard Society to voice my concern about this, seeing as these three companies have all been in the news recently regarding the drugs they manufacture.

No reply folks.

I even copied in my MP.... no reply from her either!

Something afoot?

I think so

The Hansard Society and Pharma

The Hansard Society is an independent, non-partisan educational charity, which exists to promote effective parliamentary democracy.

Notice the three supporters I have highlighted and click on them.

Hardly suprising is it that our Government won't act on any issues you and I may have with Pharmaceutical companies!
