2011 CCHR Human Rights Awards Banquet

Copyright CCHR International

A gathering of like-minded people.

A show of solidarity in the fight against the drugging of children.

A feeling of an intense connection with those you meet.

That was the Bonaventure Hotel, Los Angeles on Saturday 12th February as the Citizens Commission on Human Rights [CCHR] hosted their 43rd annual award ceremony - count them folks, that's 43.

I learned last year that I had been chosen to receive an award at this years event, along with two far more worthy winners than I, in Amy Philo and Celeste Steubing.

It's pretty difficult, even for the likes of me, to put into words of how proud I was to be amongst such strong advocates. To have ones work recognized by the biggest bad ass movement out there is very humbling. Uplifting isn't a word I would normally use for an event that highlights death and family destruction, in this instance I can think of no better description.

I have met so many wonderful people, each with their own sad stories to tell, each with hearts full of kindness, love and camaraderie. CCHR are without a shadow of a doubt the masters of creating awareness. A room with 1200 people was evidence of that, as were the tears of finally realising that no parent has to suffer the death of their child to psychiatric drugs alone.

Here we have an organisation who pretty much grab this sick and twisted industry by the bollocks and don't let go until they get a result.

I'm scratching my head hard here to think of another organisation, that gives power to the people, who can boast the achievements that CCHR can.

Okay, I don't want to sound like I'm sticking my tongue down the back of their trousers or in the LA Hubs instance, skirts - they pretty much know how I feel about them. I love them to bits for what they have done...and what they continue to do.

I got to meet many familiar names I had only previously seen via the medium of blogs/websites, even met new faces whom are now firm friends.

Folk from all over the world attended this years event, Brits, Canadians, Americans, Japanese... many more.

You see, CCHR and I are alike in as much that we have a pretty 'bang on' sense of humour. What could piss off GlaxoSmithKline more than Bob Fiddaman getting an award for basically highlighting their dark history? With a wry smile someone at CCHR thought it would be highly entertaining to sit me around a table with the office of Baum Hedlund Attorneys. A classic two finger salute to the Paxil/Seroxat Pushers.

The event was a red carpet affair complete with tuxedos and stunning frocks, I opted for the tux before anyone shouts "Fid is a transvestite!"

I am deeply honoured to be recognised by the whoop ass machine that is CCHR. I am deeply humbled to share in the experiences of the mothers I met, Celeste, Maria, Sheila, Christian, Amy, Mathy, each with heart-wrenching stories, each with the courage and strength to keep on fighting against the very same people that caused them heartache.

I feel privileged to sit at the very same table as the Baum gang, even more privileged to visit their offices and to share lunch and dinner with them. Here we have a law firm that do what they do because they don't like what they see. It's not about money for Baum, it's about the victims.

I've been hugged by a zillion people, chaperoned around Hollywood, been treated like a movie star because there's a bunch of people across the pond who can actually see what I have been up against during my time writing this blog. Special thanks to the British actor, Hal Ozsan, who presented me with my award with a very touching introduction.

Watch this space folks - I'm about to embark on a journey that will see a whole bunch of us kick some New Zealand psych's ass into the middle of next week, a Prozac pusher with no empathy and one who has a complete disdain for human life. I'm with the sisterhood on this one.

It's great you've been rewarded for your efforts and skills in the fight against the horrendous deceit and manipulation of big pharma.

I just wanted to add a caveat here that, as you will of course know, CCHR 'continues to be entirely controlled by and subject to policy directives issued from the Church of Scientology'.

They obscure this link in the UK by having separate websites for drawing in psychiatric abuse victims, which only includes a small link to CCHR, which only includes a small link to scientology. The latter's aim of course being, according to the current leader, "let's get rid of psychiatry, and let's bring Scientology to every man, woman and child on this planet"

I won't be surprised if my IP address now ends up on some list of Suppressive Persons.

  4. Controlled by?

You really need to do your homework.

Can you tell me of another organisation other than CCHR that are banging the drum?

The anti-Scientology brigade, yourself included, need to step back and look at the bigger picture.

CCHR bring people together, I've known them for some time now, never have they forced anything on me.

Your thanks are appreciated but your rant misguided.

  5. CCHR International gives all the global picture.

I'm for pro-choice helpful health care. "Chosen All" is that a private joke? When all only given one of is no choice to chose from Chosen All is a very unpopular monopoly at my house.

    End chemical slavery.

  6. Waste of time debating with these kind of folk Andrew. Critics rarely leave their real name as they cannot stand by their convictions.

Great to meet and talk with you.

The controlled by comment was a quote from the Wikipedia article on CCHR... it's beyond doubt that it was set up by Scientology and is run by them, surely?

Chosen All is a random nickname chosen on the spot, lighten up.

If you're gonna insult people for commenting anonymously for their own protection, then maybe you should disable anonymous commenting. No one has any real idea if names that are given are real anyway.

I never said I was anti-scientology, I was simply pointing out well known links between them and CCHR that I'm sure you agree people should be aware of so they can make up their own mind. I am, of course, anti some of their techniques and stated goals. My main concern here is the possible undermining of credibility of anti-psych work in the eyes of many out there (who, granted, may not fully appreciate the extremity and extent of the harm being caused to people by mindless psych drugging).

  8. Flourish and prosper and stop harping on about this. If you cannot grasp the message CCHR are relaying then go write a blog and include your thoughts.

    End of debate

  9. Bob: Congratulations mate - thoroughly deserved after what you've been through. As we both know, there's nothing more than Big Pharma hates than being laughed at - it shows our contempt for them.

As for those trying to paint CCHR as some sort of front for the Church of Scientology, all I can say is that "scientologist" was one of the first insults the old DrugWonks blog used to reach for when someone said something it didn't like about their pet industry.

Looking forward to the book, you'll have to show me how to post an ad for it on the PG site.

    All the best, Giles...

  10. Thanks for the heads up on your blog Giles :-)

The AS Brigade don't bother me, it's quite laughable that their only tool is to use a label, ironic that the pharmaceutical industry and psychiatrists use this same labelling system to ply their wares into the mouths of children.

    Thanks for your support

  21. Mr. Fiddaman:
I must say, I am moved by what you have done. For what you have done as one man, is nothing short of remarkable, outstanding and an example to us all. So many of us go about our lives observing the world crumbling about us - yet we do nothing about it. You my friend have taken up a purpose that is right up there with the nobelist of causes, and against an insideous and destructive force. It is unbelievable how much you have done with simply telling the truth. You have taken down an evil giant with the truth. You are an inspiration to me as an individual. As a result I am doing more to help in areas that I believe will too make this world a better place to live in. Thank you for what you have done. Thank you in advance for what you continue to do. And thank you for not waivering from alliances who also recognize and forward the truth. Kind Regards Norm

Fiddy, your video has made me cry so much. Just want to say thank you for your heart felt work. My brother was taken from us through overdose of neuroleptic drugs (NMS)at the hands of a so called "doctor" who is still doing this! So when people start ranting about whether scientology drives cchr, and is trying to get the world to convert, I say get real. They have no idea what it is like to lose a loved one, to wake up each and everyday, no matter how many years have gone by, and think how they could have stopped it from happening. When faced with this very real, unfathomable permanent loss, somehow deciding what religion I should follow carries zero weight. People have no idea that it doesnt matter if radical islam is behind cchr, all I want is for psychiatry and pharma and fda to stop murdering our families and to be held accountable. I would gladly embrace scientology if it meant they are preventing someone else from having to say, "I wish I could have my brother back".

Until you lose someone you love at the hands of psychiatry for their scam, and have to live with this for the rest of your life, you have no idea how much this ranting about scientology falls on deaf ears.

My ears are full of echoes of my brother's voice, his love, his pain, his Spirit, and now how to educate and advocate. You think I can hear the scientology ranting after all that?

  24. Thank you for your heartfelt message Anon.

    You are, of course, right.

Those that wish to throw a spanner into the works of CCHR seem to be on their own crusade, a crusade that really doesn't help the fight against what the majority of us are up against.

If it's not too late, my sincere condolences to you and your family.

    Fid

You are in the business of saving lives while the big pharmaceutical corporations are cashing in on destroying lives. Kudos to you for standing in their way.
