50 Years and Still Rockin'

Love is all you need

Last weekend I celebrated some special champions of human rights at a star-studded Hollywood event. It was the 50th anniversary of the Citizens Commission on Human Rights (CCHR). I respect this organisation and support their goals which include investigating and exposing psychiatric violations of human rights and demanding medical doctors become competent. Today's post is about the well-attended California event.

The "S" Word

For some people out there, there's an elephant in the room whenever CCHR's public health and safety work is referenced. It's an elephant I noted in my book years ago and one that I'm never shy to address. That it has to do with labels is something I find ironic considering labels are often the first tool psychiatrists use to lead unsuspecting victims down the destructive path of wrongful drugging.

CCHR is a nonprofit mental health watchdog responsible for helping to enact more than 150 laws protecting individuals from abusive or coercive practices. CCHR has long fought to restore basic inalienable human rights to the field of mental health, including, but not limited to, full informed consent regarding the medical legitimacy of psychiatric diagnosis, the risks of psychiatric treatments, the right to all available medical alternatives and the right to refuse any treatment considered harmful.

CCHR was co-founded in 1969 by the Church of Scientology and Professor of Psychiatry Emeritus Dr. Thomas Szasz at a time when patients were being warehoused in institutions and stripped of all constitutional, civil and human rights. That the pharmaceutical companies and their PR machines often try to use one's spiritual beliefs to discredit those harmed and divert the public's attention away from real facts about the pharma and psych industry is nothing new. I've met countless victims and their families whose spiritual beliefs and the church they attend were the subject of depositions conducted by pharma. Pharma basically tried to link the SSRI-induced death of a 12-year-old girl to their family's Protestant religion and the church the family attended.

Here's the interesting thing. The surviving family members were questioned by the drug manufacturer's attorneys. They were trying to claim that the family were Scientologists because they supported the work of CCHR. For four hours the victim's sister was grilled. The drug manufacturer was trying to suggest that the family was unstable and that their sister/daughter died because of their beliefs and not because of Zoloft induced suicide.

That little girl, by the way, was just twelve-years-old and died by hanging shortly after her Zoloft dose was doubled. She weighed just 67 pounds.

Seriously, no kidding here. But what do you expect given pharma tried to blame another young child's death on possible "sex games" gone wrong. (The child was found hanging after consuming Zoloft and Pfizer claimed the boy may have died because he was possibly engaging in sex games. Matthew Miller was just 13 years old.)

So, back to the "S" word, Scientology. I was born into a Catholic family. While I no longer practice Catholicism, I also don't practice Scientology. Not that my religion should be anyone's business but my own, but apparently some people refuse to share helpful research, resources and stories of prescribed harm simply because of other people's religious beliefs or affiliations. This alarms me because as I noted, labelling and censorship is exactly what the psych and pharma industry promote to keep information about prescribed harm out of the public's eye. I'd hate to see people killed or harmed because they didn't have an opportunity to access factual information and/or read the avoidable tragedies of prescribed harm suffered by their neighbours.

I have many friends with various spiritual beliefs. They include Catholics, Scientologists, Protestants, Muslims, Hindus and atheists. While I'm always interested in learning more about my friends' personal beliefs, my friends don't pressure me to believe as they do and none have ever tried to convert me. Most people would agree it is wrong to be ridiculed and slandered based upon one's religious principles.

In my 13 years as a public health and safety advocate, I've seen one church constantly targeted and maligned by the psych and pharma industry--the Church of Scientology. It doesn't take a genius to figure out why pharma attacks Scientologists. One need only to look at the reliable and extensive research and resources freely offered by CCHR to understand why CCHR is a target of these industries. In addition, I suspect if any of these other religions advocated as CCHR does, they, too, would be targeted by psychiatry and pharma.

These well-funded, systemically-organized attacks are merely manipulation tactics. An appropriate word for this behaviour is one I've just invented and rather like: hoodwinkery. So don't be hoodwinked by hoodwinkery.

Now back to last weekend's CCHR 50th anniversary events.

Library Meets Rock Gig

A CCHR event is a cross between a library and a rock gig. This may sound like a contradiction, but here's why I describe it as such. Attend any CCHR event and you will find yourself in a room full of knowledgeable people. Everyone there knows what's going on in the dark world of brain pellets. Audience members and hosts represent the knowledge, and the rock gig vibe is represented by, well, by accomplished musicians.

This Los Angeles event was the third one I've attended. (I also previously attended a CCHR award event in the UK years ago.) This year's human rights award recipients were film-maker Kevin P. Miller and attorney Andy Vickery. I have previously corresponded with both and was glad to meet Kevin Miller last weekend. Unfortunately, I never had a chance to meet Andy Vickery because honorees are swamped by the masses at after-show parties where everybody wants to talk with them. (I know because years ago I was one of several people recognized by CCHR for advocacy work.)

I was glad to meet award-winning documentary filmmaker, Kevin P. Miller. For those who don't know, Kevin wrote and directed both Generation RX and Letters from Generation RX. Like me, Miller has met many families destroyed by products marketed as "antidepressants." I prefer to simply call these pills brain pellets. It's a dark world we both move in yet it is also rewarding when we can improve public health by publicizing the personal experiences of those who have been prescribed harm. Kevin's humanitarian efforts shine in his documentaries. He is committed to human rights and long after his films are finished, he still speaks with the families of the victims, many of whom have become personal friends. He never forgets those whose stories he compassionately shares. I was glad to see Kevin, a kind-hearted man whose previous films have covered other human rights issues such as veterans and the homeless, recognized by CCHR for his contributions to a better society. I salute you, Kevin.

Another CCHR human rights award recipient was trial lawyer, Andy Vickery. Vickery was moved to tears when delivering his acceptance speech.

If you click on the New York Times link above about young Matt Miller who died while taking Zoloft, you'll see it was Andy Vickery who represented the family against Pfizer. Vickery was one of the first attorneys to represent families harmed by SSRIs and shined a public spotlight on the link between Paxil and violence when he represented the family of Donald Schell.

In 1998 the town of Gillette, Wyoming was shaken to its core, not by invading aliens arriving in motherships playing the five tones. Gillette was shaken by the Paxil-induced homicide and suicide of Donald Schell. Schell, age 60, shot to death his wife, daughter and baby granddaughter before turning the gun on himself. At that time nobody knew why such a loving man would carry out such heinous crimes. Thanks to Andy Vickery, the public soon learned about the link between Paxil and violence.

Schell's surviving son-in-law, Tim Tobin, brought a wrongful death lawsuit against GlaxoSmithKline, Paxil makers. The jury in the Tobin v SmithKline Beecham (SKB) trial concluded that Paxil could cause someone to carry out suicide or homicide and that the drug was, in fact, a proximate cause of the deaths in this case. (1)

In 2004, some two years after the Tobin verdict, the FDA mandated black box warnings about the risk of antidepressant-induced suicidality, which SmithKline had denied, but which the Tobin case proved existed. The Black Box Warnings were a positive step in the right direction when it comes to protecting the public. However, the FDA does not require that the warning be clearly communicated by prescribers.

Vickery's award is well deserved.

For Those About to Rock... Da Sisterhood (You know who you are!)

The event itself was classy. It's glitz with a message and that message comes across loud and clear in a fantastic awards' show with top-notch talent. Award-winning Broadway star, James Barbour and Mark Isham, a Grammy-award winning, Oscar-nominated recording artist ended the program with an amazing rendition of the song "From Now On."

The spectacular finale had me wanting to jump on the table in the style of Thor whilst pulling a sword from my side. I was pumped up and proud of CCHR's accomplishments. Man, these folks know how to put on a show.

I met with past winners. I met with old friends and made new ones. I had a special time celebrating 50 years of CCHR and honouring Kevin and Andy. There really aren't enough superlatives for this ass-kickin' organisation that, in the face of extreme adversity, continue to fight to safeguard human rights for all.

It was especially rewarding for me to spend time with CCHR UK's Brian Daniels. I've known Brian for years. He's a top advocate and a dear friend (Oooh friend**). You kind of know how deep a friendship is when you, for whatever reason, don't see a lot of one another, but when you do meet again it's as comfortable as slipping into an old favourite coat. Brian is not only a friend, but he's also a fellow warrior and we share the same goals in life. (Oooh sharing friend**)

Another long-time friend, Gary Brown, was recognized for his support of CCHR. It was great to see Gary on stage. He is another favourite coat of mine.

I fully anticipate today's blog will be met by some with silence and continued censorship. While I don't give a toss if some people choose to judge or label me, I do care about protecting the innocent. If I saw my neighbour's kid playing with matches in his backyard, I wouldn't first ponder if my neighbour was a Catholic or a Muslim or a whatever before I rushed over to inform the parents and save their child from the fire.

CCHR has your back, folks, whatever your beliefs. I, unequivocally, have theirs too.

We Owe A Great Deal to the CCHR

First off, they are friends.

Secondly, they are humanitarians.

The Citizens Commission on Human Rights (CCHR) were  co-founded in 1969 by the Church of Scientology and psychiatrist Thomas Szasz. Yikes, there's that word, 'psychiatrist'.

I jest.

For many years now (Over 40 in fact) the CCHR have been relentless in their campaigning to protect children (and adults) from the harms of unsafe psychiatric medications. They, just like me, have been labelled as just being a front for the Church of Scientology - this, ladies and gentlemen, is a myth, it's also a line of defence used by people, including healthcare "professionals" who cannot defend the use, or indeed safety of psychiatric medications. They are 'whacko's', 'nutjobs' and 'conspiracy theorists' are just some of the labels that have been used against the CCHR. In fact, I've been accused of being a 'smeary conspiracy theorist' and, indeed, a 'scientologist', of which I am neither.

CCHR recognise the 'normal' man or woman on the street, they also acknowledge these very same people. They don't wish to cover themselves in garlands for fighting, they do, however, applaud the work of others.

There seems to be a reluctance by the minority to praise the work of CCHR, I honestly don't know if this is due to being blind or ignorant of the facts - or maybe people just don't wish to be labelled by having their names mentioned alongside these 21st century warriors who have been kicking ass for almost 50 years now. That, by anyone's standards, is deserved of acknowledgement.

Each year the CCHR hand out awards to those who have been fighting alone in the war (because that's what it is) against the use of psychiatric medication, the incararation of patients in institutions and the use of electro compulsive therapy (ECT) to treat apparent mental disorders - I say apparent because, to date, none of these 'disorders' can be proven by modern science to treat the various forms of depressive illnesses churned out (almost on a yearly basis) by the field of psychiatry.

The work they have done, and continue to do, is quite staggering and yet the minority still try to align their fight to some sort of crusade to get people wrapped up in the whole Scientology thing.

I've known of their existence since 2011. In 2006 I created this blog and basically fought my corner and then the corners of others after I became aware that my own experience with the antidepressant, Seroxat (Paxil) paled into insignificance compared to those who had died as a result of taking these particular types of medications (SSRIs)

I've met many of the members of CCHR and have remained good friends with them over the years, be they American, Canadian or British - They are just 'normal' people with an undying passion, one of humanitarian values - one that we should all acknowledge and, maybe, learn from.

Adults, teenagers, children and infants are dying - not as a result of a 'chemical imbalance' causing an 'illness' - they are dying as a result of a drug causing a chemical imbalance - one that tips them over the edge and makes them do things they wouldn't normally do. This isn't science fiction folks, it's science-fact.

We owe a great deal to the CCHR because they have been banging the drum loudly for nigh of 50 years - they've been labelled and ridiculed for showing compassion and love for their fellow humans. Their mission was, and still is, simple - they don't wish to see any more needless deaths to these types of drugs and they lambast (rightly so) those that push these medications and treatments.

The video below is one of the most powerful I've seen, particularly if you watch it through to the end - the message really hits home. It features a mother, Celeste Steubing, who lost her son to antidepressant induced suicide. Celeste pretty much sums up how most parents (who have lost their children to antidepressant induced suicide) wish to speak out and warn others about these powerful class of drugs. The first time I saw this video I cried buckets, it's beautifully crafted and drives the message home that we, the public, are being duped. The video is, of course, from the phenomenal team of the CCHR. (Click on 'Full Screen' to embrace the message - to feel it and then to do something about it) - It's inspirational, just as the parent who features in it, just as those (CCHR) who created it. (Just take a look at all those children, folks!)

If it wasn't for the CCHR we'd all be battling our corners alone, of that I am certain.

CCHR - I salute you and will continuing holding that salute forever more.

For Jan, Marla and Brian - I shall live forever in your debt. I will embrace the love and humanity that you have embraced for all these years - you are all my heroes.

Bob Fiddaman.

**For the record, I have no faith in religion. I do, however, beleive that I'm embroiled in this war because it would just be too hard to walk away, shrug my shoulders and do nothing.**

MHRA Decline to Meet With Human Rights Movement

What is the difference between the British drug regulator, the MHRA, and the human rights movement, the CCHR?

Well, in short, the MHRA claim to protect us from unsafe drugs but...they fail on a grand scale whereas the CCHR continue to fight the corner of the small person on the street, trying to protect the health of the public by raising issues and questions to officialdom.

For those that don't know, MHRA stands for the Medicines Healthcare and products Regulatory Agency. Their job is to monitor the medicines the British public take. They are an agency that is fully funded by the pharmaceutical industry. Their Chief Executive is Dr Ian Hudson, a former World Safety Officer for GlaxoSmithKline [then SmithKline Beecham]

The CCHR stands for the Citizen's Commission on Human Rights. They have many purposes, two of which is to flag growing concerns regarding psychiatric drugs and those that prescribe them. They are a non-profit, non-political, non-religious mental health watchdog. Their UK's Executive Director is Brian Daniels who has no links to the pharmaceutical industry.

Back in July 2013 Brian, representing the CCHR, wrote to June Raine of the MHRA. He had previously wrote to the MHRA some months earlier but they had failed to respond.

The CCHR were concerned about the growing list of antidepressant 'adverse incidents' in the UK and proposed a meeting with the MHRA for an 'open debate'.

The CCHR even offered a database... "A set of data has been compiled consisting of 1637 incidents involving antidepressants. It has been made available on a web site www.antidepaware.co.uk. It came to the attention of this organisation as it aligned with documents gathered over decades regarding this category of drug and the adverse drug reactions."

Here's the letter in full.

The MHRA [eventually] replied in their usual classic fashion. They declined to meet with the CCHR citing the previous correspondence they had sent to the CCHR.

I've saw the correspondence, in fact, I have an uncanny ability to predict any correspondence from the MHRA when the subject of antidepressants are concerned... move over Doris Stokes. [1]

Here's the MHRA's bog-standard response they sent to the CCHR... they have sent me the same in the past.

So, 10 years ago, write the MHRA, an 'expert' working group published its findings regarding the balance and risks of SSRi antidepressant use. The 'experts', in relation to suicidal behaviour in adults, concluded that there was a modest increase in the risk of suicidal thoughts and self-harm for SSRis compared to placebo. They added that the MHRA follow up all cases of suicide that are reported to them. Reports can only be sent to them via their yellow card reporting system.

I don't know about you but if I wanted to learn more about the quality of food served at a restaurant I'd ask a customer and not someone paid by the restaurant manager.

Ben Scott, who wrote the reply to the CCHR, lists himself as the MHRA's 'Customer Services Manager'.

Customer Services?

Nice job Ben. It must have taken you all of three minutes to copy and paste that to the CCHR. I wonder if MHRA clerical staff are given a typing test for such positions. I wonder if Ben, when filling out his application form for the customer services manager position, wrote, "I can type 40 words per minute". I bet my left nut it was met with senior management rolling around the floor laughing. "HAHAHA, guffaw, titter, this Ben chap seems to think we actually type our responses to customers, HAHAHAHAH, has he not heard of our standard stonewalling template?"

I don't mean to have a pop at Ben Scott here, he's probably a decent sort who believes he's working for an agency that really have their finger on the pulse of dangerous medications...even if that finger hasn't been lifted since 2004.

I've had many public spats with the MHRA. I've had meetings with them, I've been labelled by them, I think the term was  "loose cannon". Yeh, I'm a loose cannon, I fire when I need to fire and not when someone tells me to, least of all some lickspittle agency that bends over in front of the pharmaceutical industry merely to 'take one for the team'.

Men, women and children are killing themselves whilst taking antidepressant medication. It's no cause for concern for the MHRA because their 'experts' told us 10 years ago that the benefits outweigh the risks.

Here's what Facebook looked like 10 years ago.

Facebook, unlike the MHRA, have changed. Many, if not all of their changes, have come as a result of listening to what the customer wants.

The MHRA, have remained in the same position regarding their stance on the safety of antidepressants, it's a position highlighted in the following picture...

Take a good look at the picture. It shows two things. It highlights how the MHRA like to bury their head in the sand, at the same time sticking their ass in the air so the Pharmafia can politely butt-fuck them when they step out of line. [Ooops, there's the loose cannon in me rearing its wayward head]

If using profanity is what it takes for this agency to sit up and take notice about the huge SSRi problem then swear I shall.

I ceased communication with the MHRA a few years ago. I have, since, sent them a few minor requests. I publicly noted my reasons for severing my ties with them in my book.

The MHRA will not meet with the CCHR because they don't want the cold, hard facts thrown at them. They don't want to have to go back to the issue of the safety and efficacy of antidepressants because by doing so it will highlight just how utterly incompetent they are as an agency. They don't want their 2008 investigation into GSK rehashed because it embarrasses them greatly. In brief, the MHRA carried out a four year investigation. The investigation  focused on whether GSK had failed to inform the MHRA of information it had on the safety of Seroxat in under 18’s in a timely manner. Despite finding that GSK HAD been slow in releasing this information, the MHRA decided not to prosecute them. Instead they opted to send them a letter asking them not to be naughty again. [GSK really took heed of that 2008 warning huh?]

In the words of Charles Medawar, "They [MHRA] have failed and they have failed miserably"

ADHD Debunked by Human Rights Movement

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, better known as ADHD by some, is, we have been led to believe, a neurobehavioral disorder or, in layman's terms, a brain that isn't working normally.

There are some who wear ADHD like a badge, many parents, school teachers etc will argue that ADHD does exist because they have witnessed it first hand. "You should come to the school where I work and see little Johnny in class, his behaviour disrupts the rest of the kids, he has ADHD."

Amazing isn't it, teachers and, to an extent, parents, have become brain specialists overnight.

ADHD is a controversial subject, particularly with the aforementioned. Tell a parent that the diagnosis given to their child is based on guess work and you will, more than likely, be met with defiance. It's the God factor coming into play folks.

Stick a white coat on a male or female, add one stethoscope and one copy of the British National Formulary and Voila, God is born.

Parents believe this quackery because Dr God has told them it exists.

This brings me conveniently to an article that appeared in the Irish Examiner earlier today. The article, entitled, 'Beware psychiatrists’ advice on ADHD', is the other side of the coin,  the side that prescribing physicians, parents and teachers choose to ignore because it flies in the face of Dr God, who remember knows what he is talking about.

Brian Daniels [Citizens Commission on Human Rights] hits the nail right on the head with:

"For decades, psychiatrists have been busily reclassifying sets of behaviour and emotions as ‘mental illnesses’. Strip away all of the psychiatric jargon, and you won’t find a scrap of scientific evidence to support the psychobabble."
I think the above quote from Daniels should be inscribed in stone and should be in every classroom across Britain nae the world. It's a gentle, yet persuasive, reminder that kids with behavioural problems are just that. They have nothing chemically wrong going on inside their, as yet, fully developed brains, in fact, according to the Children's Hospital Boston, teen brains are only around 80 percent developed, those that aren't teens 0-12, have less developed brains. [Source]

I have met Brian Daniels on a number of occasions, we have become very good friends during the time we have known one another. He's a passionate man, he's a rational man, a true humanitarian.

Most readers of my blog, according to my Google analytic stats, were kids back in the 1970's. Most, if not all, would have, at some point, been reprimanded at school. Poor quality handwriting, running in corridors, not wearing the correct school uniform or wearing the school tie with one of them huge knots we all thought looked so damn cool.

We would have all met those naughty kids, you know the ones, they used to backchat the teachers, those defiant kids.

9 times out of 10 they were sent to see the Headmaster/Headmistress who (if you were from my neck of the woods) were caned. Six of the best, three on each hand. Thank you sir, you have just given me my badge of honour. Yup, I used to love showing the marks on my hand to the other kids in the playground, two lovely red hands because farting is prohibited in church - Good old Catholic religion punishing flatulence!

Today, we don't have any form of physical punishment in our schools, rightly so if my experience of brutality for passing wind is anything to go by.

Instead we have children being naughty or who lack attention, all being punished with pharmaceutical drugs. This is what we have accepted because, well, because there really isn't much else in place to keep bad behaviour in check. Detention doesn't really work because those pesky kids just won't turn up for detention. Banning them from the sports team would only be met with 'Am I bovvered'.

So, something had to be done, right?

ADHD.

Not only will it explain away the behavioural problems as a brain disease it will also allow the child to proudly wear that badge. He/she can't show the red marks on their hands but they can proudly announce that they have something wrong with their brain because Dr God told their parents.

To be honest, I am sick to death of arguing with those who claim their child has ADHD. I think in future I will just reply, "No, they haven't" and then just continue walking away from them.

The full explanation of the fraud of ADHD can be read here.

Brian Daniels, take a bow sir, it's a profound interview with words so powerful that even Dr God could not argue with... although Dr God would probably diagnose you with some sort of delusional disorder, not because he can see it via a scan but because you disagreed with him.

Daniels and the CCHR continue to ply their passion via the CCHR UK website.

More power to them. CCHR just ain't gonna roll over, they are here, like me, for the long haul.

Here's just one small example of their work, it shows how children from the ages of 0-5 years are being labelled with disorders that just don't exist.

I salute Daniels. I salute CCHR.

So, Do You Care About Children?

Every now and again something comes along that really needs no introduction. Something as simple as a two minute video kinda sums up the needless over-prescribing of powerful antidepressant-type medications to the most vulnerable.

This two minute video was put together by the Citizens Commission on Human Rights [CCHR]. They've been banging the drum for years regarding the dangers of these types of medications.

I've wrote about the CCHR before on this blog [here and here] and in my book. They are an organisation who pretty much kick ass and an organisation that recognise that others kick ass too.

Any healthcare professional with a conscience should see that handing out powerful drugs to kids whose brains have not yet fully developed is wrong on so many levels.

Here's the video and also the accompanying message I put on Facebook too.

"Check it out. If it moves you then share it. If it doesn't then continue posting fluffy kittens or bunnies to your Facebook wall. Truth is 280,000 babies, from 0 to 12 months of age, are being prescribed psychiatric drugs. Truth is almost 200,000 children, under the age of 5, are taking ADHD drugs. Truth is.... well, just watch the video."

Please share.

Aussie Mental Health Minister Helen Morton in Mud Slinging Campaign

WA Mental Health Minister Helen Morton

Well, it appears that the Western Australian Health Minister, Helen Morton, has joined the ranks of the DeLorean driving posse [Paddy McGorry et al] and slammed those who have slammed the draft of the proposed changes in the Aussie mental health legislation. One of the proposals is to allow children to consent to being prescribed mind-altering medication and treatment such as ECT.

In typical [now unfashionable] fashion, Morton has accused the Church of Scientology of running a scare campaign.

[Insert laughter here]

ABC News Australia showed how The Citizen's Commission on Human Rights Australia [CCHR] have been handing out thousands of leaflets to protest against the new proposals, prompting Morton to label them.

Oh the irony.

Does Morton think that every single person who criticises these farcical proposals is a Scientologist?

The ABC News footage can be viewed here, most striking comment comes from Morton herself, via the reporter:

"The draft bill is just that and it's unlikely than many of the proposals will end up in the final version."

Anyone else think that Morton is missing the bigger picture here?

She should be criticising rather than name-calling, although it's common place for people to refer to mental health critics as Scientologists, usually because the person mud-slinging really does not have a clue what they are talking about and even if they did...they just don't know what to do about it.

So, sit back Ms or Mrs Morton, rest those weary feet of yours and do nothing. Meantime, the draft bill proposal will be assessed and pushed by the powers that be to include the latest set of mental health illnesses that can only be cured by Pharma drugs, in turn making millions of Aussie tax dollars for the current Australian government. Even Paddy McGorry has openly criticised the draft bill.

I'm left wondering what religion Morton is behind, it's a fair enough question, isn't it?

I don't see Catholics, Muslims or any other religion speaking out against these moronic proposals. I do, however, see a growing number of academics and patient advocates rising up, many of which cannot be labelled by the likes of Morton and the rest of the DeLorean driving posse from down under.

When a cause is effective there will be those who wish to shoot it down. CCHR are effective and that, ladies and gentlemen is pissing off the hierarchy so much that the only thing they can come back with is the Scientology slur.

I'm not a Scientologist, despite being labelled one many times usually by my pensioner stalker, a mindless cretin from Northern Ireland. I have many Scientologist friends, same as I have many Catholic, Muslim and Hindu friends. I don't judge people because of their need to have a religion in their life. I do, however, question the likes of Morton who can openly claim that CCHR are scaremongering. I think if she reads the proposals for the DSM-5, she will see clearly who the ones are that are scaremongering.

You know, if I was a kid I'd like someone to watch out for me. I'm reminded of the film 101 Dalmations and the character Cruella de Vil. In this instance the victims are children and not dogs.

Words fail me. Fortunately CCHR Australia are not failing, they are creating an awareness that da man just doesn't like. Da man's only form of weaponry is his mouth and the tired, worn out excuse that those wishing to safeguard children are Scientologists.

Blow it out yer arse Australia!

For the record, I believe in Karma.

Sitting Back in Anger

There are those that do then there are those that...well, that just sit there shrugging their shoulders not giving a toss.

There is a global problem with children being prescribed mind-altering drugs, in fact the increase in drug prescriptions stranglely does not run concurrent with the increase in apparent mental disorders. The drugs, the system, is being manipulated.

Put a bunch of children on courses of powerful antipsychotics, chances are their reactions to them will mimic the traits of a depressive or someone who shows a lack of interest. Solution? Feed them more drugs.

The term "chemical cosh" has been used by many people to describe these drugs, they whip the child into submission - Go and sit in the corner and be quiet, I'm not putting up with your tantrums today.

It's all well and good writing blogs about this problem or posting videos to Twitter and Facebook, chances are that only a small number of people on friend lists will retweet or share on the social networking websites. People these days seem more moved by a dog being mistreated or a cat being thrown into a bin by a passer-by. There's public outrage [and rightly so] at seals being clubbed to death or secretly filmed videos of animals being mistreated by the travelling circus. I've seen campaigns on Facebook that range from the ridiculous to the sublime and seen grown adults post links to the various games on Facebook, "You have been invited to play Mafia Wars." Hey, each to their own, whatever gets you through the day, I'm not knocking the fact that you wish to escape from reality, we all need that escapism at some point in our lives.

There are far too many shoulder shruggers, The why should it bother me, my kids are fine type. Sometimes we, as adults, have to step out of our own bubbles to see the true state of humanity. Yeh, it sucks, it's depressing and why should we take on other people's problems when we have so much crap in our own lives?

Nice take on life folks.

There are those that do then there are those that sit back and watch those that do. "You are doing great work", "Thanks for highlighting this", "Thanks for posting, I'll read after I have planted the seeds in my garden on Farmville."

I'm of the opinion that the people that highlight these stories about the ever-increasing drugging of children do not want the thanks, they'd much prefer people to do something about it. Recognition is nice but what is it worth if your message gets lost amidst the back-slapping and high fives? By all means thank those that highlight these stories but please remember what you are thanking them for then ask yourself what you can do about the reason why you thanked them.

There is a trend for those that do, they never stop at one story, they continue to highlight the plight of children being drugged because they know they have to. Repetition is the key.

Next, we have the haters. Those people that just don't like to see good triumph over evil, the anonymous knuckleheads who are so hellbent on discrediting that they fail to realise that they are no better than the white-coated buffoons that hand out these drugs, the pharmaceutical companies that manufacture them and the independent bodies that, apparently, regulate them.

Yesterday saw me join a bunch of folk for a demonstration in my hometown of Birmingham. It was to protest against the use of ECT, otherwise known as Electroconvulsive therapy. Two incidents that struck me were thus:

Scene: Standing outside Maple House where there was a symposium for psychiatrists who were gathered to discuss the benefits of ECT.

A psychiatrist, who bore a striking resemblance to comedian Billy Connolly, came outside for a cigarette break, he couldn't help but look in the direction of the protesters as we were only about 5 yards away from him. He, like so many before him, had the usual smirk on his face, the patronising kind that suggests that he knows best. He looks toward our direction and says, "So, I hear you are Scientologists", then exhaled cigarette smoke in one of those laughing fashions. "Well, I'm not", I replied. His bottom lip quivered, he shuffled, shrugged his shoulders and eventually said, "Good for you." Hey great Mr Psychiatry man, if you are going to make a broad statement toward a crowd then, at the very least, have some form of defence if you are wrong. Then again, they do like to label people eh?

Scene: Standing around the corner from Maple House holding a banner.

A member of the public stops and asks me what ECT stands for. I explain and he shakes his head before coming back with, "I thought they stopped doing that in the age of the witch.". He then walked away, hopefully better educated for that brief minute we spoke.

Two incidents, two very contrasting points of view.

One has to throw a stone to get the pool to ripple, I do my bit and many other bloggers out there do the same. The Citizen's Commission on Human Rights [CCHR] have been doing it for many years, their stones being boulders. They don't stop at isolated cases, they add more coal to the fire because the train track is never ending, boy, do I know that feeling.

This post isn't about singing the praises of CCHR, they pretty much know how I feel about their organisation. This post is one that wishes to tap into the conscience of those that feel that there IS a problem but there isn't much they can do about it. They are wrong, they need to start making the pool ripple because psychiatry, the pharmaceutical industry, medicine regulators and those haters will continue to induce harm to children around the world.

Seroxat Sufferers - Over 500

I'll be busy over the next week or so, many documents to trawl through that will take up most of my time.

Meantime, I offer readers a selection of posts from my blog that have had over 500 views.

Obviously, I can't post them all as I'd have to go back to 2006.

Anyway, see what tickles your fancy.

Ontario Government To Fund the Smoking Cessation Drugs Champix and Zyban [695 HITS]
In what can only be described as a sheer act of lunacy, the Ontario government have decided that they will fund the smoking cessation drugs Champix and Zyban by adding them to the Ontario Drug Benefit Plan.

News 7: More Complaints Against Prof Graham Burrows [748 HITS]
Australian psychiatrist Graham Burrows remains tight-lipped on recent allegations that he over medicated patients and prescribed them psychiatric drugs after just spending 30 seconds with them.

2011 CCHR Human Rights Awards Banquet [868 HITS]
A gathering of like-minded people. A show of solidarity in the fight against the drugging of children. A feeling of an intense connection with those you meet.

HERE WE GO AGAIN - Viibryd, the new SSRi [569 HITS]
Just when you thought it was safe to go back to your doctor and not be presented with a new option of antidepressant medication.

DEAD WRONG - THE DOCUMENTARY - A REVIEW [1763 HITS]
The documentary, 'Dead Wrong' centres around a mother, Celeste Steubing, searching for answers as to why her son, Matthew, killed himself. The journey she embarks on reveals to her how dangerous the drug, Lexapro and other antidepressant medications can be.

VIAGRA TO BE SOLD IN TESCO STORES..."EVERY LITTLE HELPS." [589 HITS]
I can't turn on the radio these days without hearing adverts for erectile dysfunction, case in point being the offer of help from pharma giants Lilly. 40over40 website.

Glaxo, Children and Lucozade...Not made from Girders! [2510 HITS]
Oh how I remember as a kid I used to get the old sniffle. My dear old mother would make sure I was comfortable in bed, hot water bottle, a supply on tissues to wipe the running nose. There was something else too...

The Inquest of Sara Carlin and the Moderation of Yahoo Groups [847 HITS]
During the inquest of Sara Carlin, I strived to report to the best of my ability. Much of the mainstream reporting of this particular case came from Canada and I saw fit to report on issues that the mainstream media were ignoring. It's all documented on this blog. During the inquest, this blog's web traffic increased considerably, a good 80% of daily hits coming from all over Canada. What I didn't expect was the vile behaviour of my obsessive online critic, Jeremy Bryce. His constant goading on Yahoo Groups throughout the inquest shocked even me...

The GMC/GLAXO Email [611 HITS]
Following on from yesterday's article regarding Dr. Sarah Myhill who has fallen victim to the General Medical Council [GMC] As promised here is the entire email as discussed in that article...

I'll be back soon

Warnings, Studies and Adverse Reactions on Psychiatric Drugs Database

Here's what the pharmaceutical companies and medicine health regulators won't tell you. Your prescribing doctor may not tell you either, because he/she could be as misinformed as you.

Check out the CCHR database. If you don't like what you find, tell your doctor and/or medicines regulator.

Seek the truth and don't buy into the spin that people actually need these drugs and it's dangerous to suggest otherwise.

Database HERE

Alternatively, you could contact the FDA, MHRA, Health Canada or the TGA, the "independent" bodies of drug regulators who all claim that the benefit of taking these drugs outweigh the risks...risks that include:

Suicidal thoughts
Actual suicide
Homicidal thoughts
Actual homicide
Horrific withdrawal problems
Akathesia
Long term brain damage

Choice is yours...always remember that.

CCHR Canada - Another Emotional Journey

Toronto - 27th Aug 2011

I've not long got back from Toronto. CCHR Canada invited me out to give a talk about my advocacy work.

It's extremely difficult to get up in front of people and talk about the reasons why I do what I do, CCHR, wherever they are based, have a unique ability to make one feel at ease. The Canadian ball busting branch of CCHR are no different.

Once again, I was made to feel very special by this kick-ass movement. Landing in Toronto on Thursday, being taken for dinner, of the sticky rib variety then off out with one of the sisterhood, Lori Farquhar-Bryenton, to sup on a few Canadian samples of light ale. We discussed many things and I just felt so 'right'. Lori is now officially my Canadian drinking buddy.

Canada holds a very special place in my heart. Regular readers of this blog will know the story of Oakville teen, Sara Carlin, who hanged herself whilst on Paxil. Sara's story really reached out to me, it was a bond that I just cannot explain but I knew one day I would get to finally pay my respects to her. That's a private moment and one that I won't share on this blog. Sufficed to say, I did what I needed to do and now feel much better for it.

The CCHR gala, an annual event, was held at Lakeshore, a former psychiatric unit, only CCHR could muster up such a genius location. The whole event was kicked off by the new Chill EB video made in collaboration with CCHR International. It was the first time this had been aired to a live audience and I have to say it gave me goose bumps and was greeted enthusiastically by the sell out audience.

Guest speakers for the night was myself and Anthony Stephan of Truehope. Anthony gave a passionate talk to the audience about his life and his work which resulted in a standing ovation. He's an accomplished speaker and much of his work has tried to be shot down by the Canadian health regulator, Health Canada - they failed.

My talk was pretty much off the cuff [no script]. I really enjoyed speaking and felt only a slight twinge of nervousness but that was soon washed away. It's surreal for me to be given such a standing, I'm just a council tenant from Birmingham who decided to write a blog back in 2006, to be plummeted into a world of folk that are pretty much all on the same page as I gives me such an adrenaline rush. To be treated like someone special is kind of difficult for me to accept too but it is accepted graciously because it means people are reading my work, more importantly they are listening to the voices of Sara Carlin, Matthew Steubing, Candice Downing, Sharise Gatchell, Toran Henry, Shane Clancy. That is the most important thing for me. These beautiful children should not have been taken from their family and friends and it is only with the great courage of their parents, family and friends that myself, and others like me, will give them what they deserve - a voice. CCHR also give the lost a voice, they also take preventative action so that loved ones are made aware of the dangers of these bullets in a pack. I am in no doubt that medication caused the aforementioned to take their own lives, no doubt at all. I wish I had never met the parents of the children above. The only reason I have is because of their loss. I would sacrifice my friendship with all of them just so they could have their babies back.

Other children are taking these meds, many are falling by the wayside and I will, along with CCHR, do my utmost to continue spreading awareness about the dangers of these drugs, the greedy bastards who make them and the limp-wristed cowards that grant them a licence. I've not changed in my stance against using psych meds on kids. I used to bang the drum loudly about Seroxat [Paxil] - hooking up with CCHR opened my eyes, they kind of fine-tuned me, if you will.

I have met so many great people in Canada, hooking up with the Carlin family was sad...yet uplifting. Paying a visit to the offices of Oakville MP, Terence Young, was also a great highlight for me.

I'm not going to let Sara Carlin's memory be forgotten. Those responsible for her death know exactly who they are, it is they that will have to live with that - I may just remind them occasionally.

Same goes for other children lost to this wanton abuse and denial of those responsible for the safety of prescribing medication to the vulnerable.

I'm in my sixth year of blogging now, my archives are full of sad stories, full of devastation...yet it is voices that are reaching out, warning others about the dangers.

I'm just a small voice...but I've hooked up with an even bigger one in CCHR.

I stand united by their side.

Here's to the next 6 years of psychopharmaceutical monopoly ass kicking!

Advocates for the Sisterhood Part II

Following on from my previous post regarding those female advocates who kick ass, I'd like to put some more names forward. These are women advocates who, I believe, are making changes with their blogs/websites. They have each stood up to be counted.

Susan Schechter - Blog - If You're Going Through Hell...Keep Going

Susan amazes me with her drive. She is suffering as a result of various medications given to her over the years by 'professionals' yet is always willing to promote the work of others via the medium of her blog.

The various meds she has taken took their toll on Susan last year and she was admitted to hospital after she was found slumped on the floor in her home.

Susan's love for her cat, Holly, features in many of her posts. She writes brilliantly, often describing the pain she is going through with the concoction of psychiatric drugs she has been prescribed. Always stands united when others seek her help. A truly wonderful patient advocate.

Gianna Kali - Blog - Beyond Meds

Gianna's blog is seeped in eloquently written articles. Her struggles through life are apparent but she shares her own experiences to help others. On occasions Gianna takes a hiatus away from her blog but always returns to inform others and to highlight various articles and books. Her sidebar links are impressive and blog layout one of the best I've seen. She has also won many awards for her blog, all of which can be seen by visiting Beyond Meds.

Altostrata - Website - Surviving Antidepressants Forum

It takes a lot of time and effort to run and maintain a web forum, spam filtering, deleting posts from knuckleheads hired by pharmaceutical companies etc. Altostrata has created a quite superb forum for people who are struggling at the hands of antidepressant medication. Subscribers share stories, tips and articles with each other and warn of the dangers of antidepressant type drugs. Surviving Antidepressants was recently launched, I suspect that it will grow huge as more and more people flock to it for answers, answers that the drug companies, medicine regulators and doctors cannot give.

Alison Bass - Blog - Alison Bass

Alison is an award winning writer, her book, "Side Effects: A Prosecutor, a Whistleblower, and a Bestselling Antidepressant on Trial", focuses on the way GlaxoSmithKline promoted Paxil and the way they concealed negative side effects from physicians. If you haven't read it yet then do yourself a favour and purchase it - I COULDN'T PUT IT DOWN.

Alison keeps her finger on the pulse with her blog, often taking articles and adding her own commentary to them. Another advocate who has come under fire from the anonymous knuckleheads. Like Evelyn Pringle, featured in Part I, Alison is one of my all time favourite journalists. Her in-depth research leaves no stone unturned, her voice an Achilles heel to the pharmaceutical industry.

Janice Simmons - Website - Seroxat User Group

Janice and I have become firm friends over the years. The amount of 'behind the scenes' work Jan puts in is vast. She has met with the MHRA on numerous occasions, GSK's mouthpiece, Alastair Benbow and even former Prime Minister, Gordon Brown.

Over the years Janice has received a staggering 60,000 emails, most of which are from patients struggling to taper from Seroxat. Janice has been the voice of thousands over the years, taking their concerns to the front door of GlaxoSmithKline, politicians and the MHRA.

If ever there were a person who needed recognition for her hard work then it is Janice.

I had the pleasure of meeting Janice in person a couple of years ago, we both grilled a now ex MHRA employee.

Despite all her efforts and proposals to politicians and the MHRA being largely ignored, she has continued to battle on. She's a star, a diamond, a fine example of what a patient advocate should be.

Citizens Commission on Human Rights - Website - CCHR

Okay, I know this is a post about the sisterhood advocacy world but I couldn't pass up this opportunity to big up the jewels in the crown at CCHR.

When one walks through life, seemingly alone, it's a thrill to have company, to have someone walking by your side, someone who is on the same wavelength as you, someone who puts people first, be they toddlers, children, teens, adults or the elderly.

There is a strong woman presence within CCHR, from the top down. I won't name individuals, each are equal to me, each work 7 days a week kicking ass in various parts of the world. They have given voices to many victims, stuck to their guns over the years by going after the core of the problem - they never give up. A glimmer of light at the end of the dark psycopharmaceutical monopoly tunnel just drives them forward. A glimmer is not good enough, they seek more and they do so by producing DVD's, printed material and ground-breaking videos, uploaded to YouTube.

I can't big them up enough.

I'm proud to be walking by their side.

NEW VIDEO FROM CCHR

Another belter from the stable of the Citizens Commission on Human Rights [CCHR]

All those pharma whores who continue to throw mud at this organisation, please carry on. I just love to see snazzy photos of people with egg on their faces.

I'm baking a big humble pie and shall dish it out in equal portions to those that have knocked CCHR.

The attacks on them by those Anonymous knuckleheads keeps me entertained. When you come under attack you pretty much know you're being effective - CCHR are effective, the knuckleheads know it.

Their latest video highlights the elderly, a generation that we all too easily forget. The folk in this video could be your parents...just stop and think about that for a while.

Thank you CCHR for, once again, giving the vulnerable a voice.

I salute you.

If You Build It...They Will Come - CCHR March, Brighton, Tues 27th June

Yesterday I joined the kick-ass machine in Brighton for a march from Victoria Gardens down the the Hilton Hotel where a psychiatry symposium was underway. The day started off hot and sticky as many protesters gathered for the one and a half mile walk down the esplanade to amass outside the lavish Hilton.

A lone drummer followed by a group of children led the chanting as the Brighton traffic come to a standstill and passers-by looked on smiling and taking photo's of the 200 or so banner-waving protesters.

CCHR's Lady Margaret McNair and Brian Daniels stood outside the Hilton lobby to prise a response from the psychiatrists, many of whom were taking their own personal photographs of the protest across the street.

The hot, sticky summer soon vanished as thunder rolled in, huge bolts of lightening flashed over the sea but it did not deter the 200 - strong crowd.

What could beat this experience?

CCHR, not content with just a 'protest' erected a huge tent under the Hilton, inside the tent was their travelling Industry of Death museum, it's going to be there for a week or so. [If you build it...they will come]

Human Rights winner, Sharon Parnell, who is a campaigner against psychiatric drugs and founder of Revelations UK, gave a moving speech outside the Industry of Death tent, mine came shortly after but it was interrupted by a huge clap of thunder and a downpour of epic proportions.

The whole day was a great show of solidarity and one that was another huge step toward creating awareness regarding the dangers of psychiatric drugs.

Myself and Sharon had the honour of officially opening the Industry of Death, first time in my life I've cut a ribbon!

It was a day to remember and one that should never be forgotten.

What we have here is a group of people who are trying to bring about change, they've been successful since forming in 1969 and have achieved much in the way of helping victims. Their history speaks for itself and despite the mud-slingers who fail miserably to discredit them, they continue to rock AND roll, kicking ass along the way. If CCHR were a woman, I'd marry her!

Big thanks to Phil for the journey down and Vicky and Lindsey for the journey and company, back to Birmingham.

Huge thanks to CCHR for...well, for being who you are.

Psychiatrist's Assessment of Patrick McGorry

Patrick McGorry,  "false prophet."

i·ron·ic - Happening in the opposite way to what is expected, thus typically causing wry amusement.

An article appeared in Psychology Today at the end of May that should raise a few eyebrows within the circles of psychiatry, particularly the Australian community.

Ironically, the article was penned by a psychiatrist who was chair of the DSM-IV Task Force.

Allen Frances, M.D assesses Australian psychiatrist Patrick McGorry, more importantly he questions McGorry's early intervention program and ethics. The first two paragraphs set the tone for what is a pretty accurate assessment of Patrick McGorry:

"Patrick McGorry is a charismatic psychiatrist who has recently gained heroic status. First he was chosen to be Australia's Man Of The Year. Now, he has convinced the Australian government to spend more than $400 million over five years to fund his plan for a nationwide system of Early Psychosis Prevention and Intervention Centres. McGorry is the visionary prophet and pied piper of preventive psychiatry. His goal is to diagnose mental disorders early and treat them expectantly- before they can do their worst damage.

"McGorry's goal is certainly great. But its current achievement is simply impossible and Australia's plans are patently premature. Early intervention to prevent psychosis requires first that there be an accurate tool to identify who will later become psychotic and who will not. Unfortunately, no such accurate tool exists. The false positive rate in selecting prepsychosis is at least about 60-70% in the very best of hands and may be as high as 90% in general practice. That's right, folks, nine misidentified non patients for one accurately identified truly prepsychotic patient. Those are totally unacceptable odds."

The whole article smacks of irony considering it was written by a former chair of The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders [DSM], nonetheless its author pulls no punches when describing McGorry as a "false prophet" and a "pied piper of preventive psychiatry."

Frances calls into account the Australian governments $400 million expenditure on McGorry's early intervention program and adds that it is "likely to be a failure."

So, it's not only me and the likes of CCHR and Western Australian MP Martin Whitely who think McGorry's program lacks any real scientific evidence.

I can't wait to see the spin from McGorry & Co on this latest opposition to his sideshow. It will be a first if a former author of the DSM is labelled a Scientologist! - Now that would be irony.

Your move McGorry.
