Goldilocks, the Untold Paxil Story

I wrote this back in 2011 and think it's worthy of a re-post.

It's a modern day version of a tale we are all familiar with - it's also something we should all pay heed to - when reading you can substitute 'Paxil' for any other antidepressant currently on the market.

**WARNING** Contains profanity.

Goldilocks and the Three Bears...A 21st Century Perspective

Once upon a time there was a little girl called Goldilocks.

Goldilocks was 10 years old and had been diagnosed with a mental disorder, her inability to stay awake in the classroom and consequent poor marks meant she had been deemed as having GAD, Generalized Anxiety Disorder. The school psychiatrist said that Goldilocks was "stressing" about things at night and not getting enough sleep, this would often result in her falling asleep during school lessons. He prescribed her Paxil, a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor [SSRi] but it didn't agree with her, in fact she became suicidal whilst on it. Later, her psychiatrist switched medications, opting instead for Cymbalta. She was to take her dose just before she went to bed at night.

On the morning of May 20, 2011, Goldilocks had decided to "bunk off" school. Her morning had started badly, her parents had been arguing again about money, her father was pissed off at her mother because there was no food in the cupboards, this meant Goldilocks had to go without breakfast. She left her parents house hungry and sought solace in the forest adjacent to the family home.

It was around about midday that Goldilocks felt severe hunger pangs, these were increased by a sweet smell in the distance, she knew immediately that the aroma drifting through the forest was that of Porridge and she was certain she caught a whiff of maple syrup too. "Yummy", she thought as her little legs carried her toward the sugary delight.

The Bear family were rushing around that morning. Mummy Bear was panic-stricken as she had run out of her medication, ironically that medication was Paxil. Baby Bear looked on in horror as he saw his mummy anxious, agitated, shaking violently and yelling at the top of her voice, "WHERE'S MY PAXIL?"

**Actual document from SmithKline Beecham**

Daddy Bear was busying himself making Porridge. Baby Bear liked it when daddy made the Porridge as he always added maple syrup.

"Have you taken your Ritalin Baby Bear?" Daddy Bear asked.

"Yes daddy, with my milk as I always do each morning", replied the 9 year old Baby Bear.

"OH, IT'S ALRIGHT FOR YOU ISN'T IT. AS LONG AS YOU'VE TAKEN YOUR MEDS THEN EVERYTHING IS OKAY. WHAT ABOUT ME...WHERE'S MY PAXIL?", Mummy Bear howled.

"Calm down dear," Daddy Bear interjected.

"CALM DOWN...CALM FUCKING DOWN? DO YOU KNOW WHAT IT'S LIKE WHEN I MISS MY DOSE OF PAXIL? HAVE YOU EVER FUCKING EXPERIENCED THE BRAIN ZAPS AND NAUSEA, YOU INCONSIDERATE PRICK"

Mummy Bear was having one of those bad days thought Baby Bear.

"Okay, let's head on down to the pharmacy, the Porridge can wait, it's too hot to eat at the moment anyhow. We can take a drive down to the village and let it cool down, it will be just perfect by the time we get back", announced Daddy Bear.

Daddy Bear wasn't looking forward to driving the car, he had a fear of driving, a deep rooted problem from his childhood, his psychiatrist had told him. Daddy Bear had been prescribed Xanax, a benzodiazepine.

Goldilocks had saw the Bear family climb into the family saloon, the mother seemed like a right bitch, swearing and shouting at her husband and child.

Once the saloon had turned the corner, Goldilocks made her way toward an open window she had spied upon her approach. The sweet smell of maple syrup was overpowering. She climbed through the aperture and made her way to the kitchen where she saw three bowls of Porridge on the table.

She tested each bowl before gulping down the contents of the small child bowl, the others were just too hot.

Goldilocks was feeling comfortable in her surroundings and she lost all sense of time and fear. She sat on a chair in the lounge and flicked on the radio that was close by.

"...and we are going over to to our reporter on the scene right now. Ed, what can you tell us about the shooting?"

"Well, it appears that a woman walked into the Mahoney Drug Store about 15 minutes ago and calmly walked up to a shop assistant and shot her in the head. I've been privy to see the CCTV footage and it appears the woman had been somewhat agitated upon entering the store. It also appears that she was refused medication by one of the staff members, the video shows her trashing the store before leaving through the door. 5 minutes later she returned, walked calmly up to the shop assistant and pulled out a firearm and shot the assistant in the head. Police have secured the area and it seems another two people have been found shot in a family saloon, early indications report that it is a man and small child but we cannot confirm that just yet..."

Goldilocks knew Mahoney's Drug Store, it was just a five minute journey from her school. Oh well, she thought, probably someone with mental health problems.

She turned off the radio and headed up the stairs where she found a bed, the overpowering urge to sleep had come on like a speeding train. She lay on the bed and reached for the half empty glass of milk on the bedside cabinet, next to the glass was a box of Ritalin, she had heard of this drug before, sixteen of her classmates were taking it. She carefully opened the blister pack and, one by one, swallowed the 14 tablets.

It was to be the final sleep she would ever have.

Aussie Mental Health Minister Helen Morton in Mud Slinging Campaign

WA Mental Health Minister Helen Morton

Well, it appears that the Western Australian Health Minister, Helen Morton, has joined the ranks of the DeLorean driving posse [Paddy McGorry et al] and slammed those who have slammed the draft of the proposed changes in the Aussie mental health legislation. One of the proposals is to allow children to consent to being prescribed mind-altering medication and treatment such as ECT.

In typical [now unfashionable] fashion, Morton has accused the Church of Scientology of running a scare campaign.

[Insert laughter here]

ABC News Australia showed how The Citizen's Commission on Human Rights Australia [CCHR] have been handing out thousands of leaflets to protest against the new proposals, prompting Morton to label them.

Oh the irony.

Does Morton think that every single person who criticises these farcical proposals is a Scientologist?

The ABC News footage can be viewed here, most striking comment comes from Morton herself, via the reporter:

"The draft bill is just that and it's unlikely than many of the proposals will end up in the final version."

Anyone else think that Morton is missing the bigger picture here?

She should be criticising rather than name-calling, although it's common place for people to refer to mental health critics as Scientologists, usually because the person mud-slinging really does not have a clue what they are talking about and even if they did...they just don't know what to do about it.

So, sit back Ms or Mrs Morton, rest those weary feet of yours and do nothing. Meantime, the draft bill proposal will be assessed and pushed by the powers that be to include the latest set of mental health illnesses that can only be cured by Pharma drugs, in turn making millions of Aussie tax dollars for the current Australian government. Even Paddy McGorry has openly criticised the draft bill.

I'm left wondering what religion Morton is behind, it's a fair enough question, isn't it?

I don't see Catholics, Muslims or any other religion speaking out against these moronic proposals. I do, however, see a growing number of academics and patient advocates rising up, many of which cannot be labelled by the likes of Morton and the rest of the DeLorean driving posse from down under.

When a cause is effective there will be those who wish to shoot it down. CCHR are effective and that, ladies and gentlemen is pissing off the hierarchy so much that the only thing they can come back with is the Scientology slur.

I'm not a Scientologist, despite being labelled one many times usually by my pensioner stalker, a mindless cretin from Northern Ireland. I have many Scientologist friends, same as I have many Catholic, Muslim and Hindu friends. I don't judge people because of their need to have a religion in their life. I do, however, question the likes of Morton who can openly claim that CCHR are scaremongering. I think if she reads the proposals for the DSM-5, she will see clearly who the ones are that are scaremongering.

You know, if I was a kid I'd like someone to watch out for me. I'm reminded of the film 101 Dalmations and the character Cruella de Vil. In this instance the victims are children and not dogs.

Words fail me. Fortunately CCHR Australia are not failing, they are creating an awareness that da man just doesn't like. Da man's only form of weaponry is his mouth and the tired, worn out excuse that those wishing to safeguard children are Scientologists.

Blow it out yer arse Australia!

For the record, I believe in Karma.

Hickie Getting Picky With Lancet

Aussie Psychiatrist Ian Hickie

Oh, I do love it when a professional spits his dummy out of the pram, particularly when that professional is a psychiatrist who has ties to the pharmaceutical industry.

Professor Ian Hickie, whom I've wrote about numerous times on this blog, is in a tizz, it seems, with Richard Horton, the editor of The Lancet. You see, Hickie wrote a review that appeared in The Lancet last year, a review that drew some scathing criticism from fellow psychiatrists. Hickies review was, in essence, bigging up the use of Valdoxan [agomelatine] an antidepressant marketed for the treatment of major depressive disorder. Hickie was chastised by his critics for not revealing his ties to Valdoxan manufacturer, Servier.

Now, it seems, the editor of The Lancet has joined in the fun and games. Hickie is accusing Horton of defamation because of tweeting an opinion about the review.

So, Hickie has come out fighting. A full response to Horton's tweet can be viewed on the crikey.com website where Hickie writes:
Sadly, tweeting has not only replaced the academic journal itself as the major source of credible information — the new social media is perceived to be the place where people say what they really believe. Any allegation in cyberspace is instantly assumed to be true and relayed extensively throughout the social network that is modern media.
Do I sense a mild form of paranoia here? "Any allegation in cyberspace is instantly assumed to be true and relayed extensively throughout the social network that is modern media."

Oh lighten up Prof, get down off that pedestal you climbed up upon. You really are not that important.

Hickie, in typical fashion, skirts over the issues of conflict of interest [of which he has many not just Servier] and goes on to tell everyone how hard done by he is]

**Diddums

He further writes:
My professional colleagues who conduct original research, our institutions, health journalists and many of the editors of Australia’s major medical and mental health journals, are well used to receiving these social media missives from the same small band of local anti-medicine or anti-psychiatry warriors.
If it were such a small band of  local anti-medicine or anti-psychiatry warriors then why is Hickie getting so upset about a piddling little tweet?

Hickies professional colleagues include Patrick McGorry, an Australian psychiatrist who drives around town in a DeLorean predicting futures for children. He has a unique ability to spot signs of early psychosis in children - no x-rays, no blood samples, no PET or MRI scans or even urine samples - just a series of interviews and forms with boxes. I've also wrote about McGorry before.

Another of Hickie's professional colleagues is Professor Graham Burrows, who recently hit the news down under for prescribing experimental psychiatric drugs to his patients, a lawsuit against Burrows is pending.

Hickie has every right to come out and defend his name, quite why he would though is baffling. Personally, I believe the God factor has come into play here. Hickie et al have been group back-slapping for so many years now that they cannot see that having financial ties to a product is a conflict of interest. They cannot see how they can be criticised by academics and anti-psychiatry warriors. I've news for Hickie, there's a whole bunch of feisty anti-drug writers out here in cyberspace, most of whom have been harmed by the very same drugs he and his cronies dish out, many of whom have had children harmed by drugs he and his cronies dish out.

The anti-psychiatry warriors, as Hickie puts it, are here to stay. If Hickie does not like opposition or if he is feeling the heat then it may be wise for him to step out of the kitchen and take a good look at himself in the mirror - the image bouncing back is, it appears, living in that great Egyptian river [De Nile]

For the record - I wear a Tarzan-like loin cloth, have a bone through my nose and carry spears, arrows and other weaponry in my ruck-sack - That, I guess, makes me some sort of warrior in Hickie's eyes.

Oh, I regularly tweet too.

Hickie's full response to Twittergate can be read in full HERE, it's already creating a lot of responses, most of which continue to slam him. Will these psychs ever learn. TUT-TUT.

DSM 5 - "silly, worrying and dangerous"

When I first saw the proposals for the DSM-5 I thought that they'd never get these through, I, wrongly, assumed it was just a bunch a whacko psychiatrists seeing just how far they could go with inventing illnesses - Hey, the majority of the public bought into the ADHD and bi-polar inventions so why not go that extra mile?

"Oppositional defiant disorder" pretty much targets the whole of earth's children population. In a nutshell, pardon the pun, if a child say's "No" when you ask it to perform a task and then it say's "No" again when you reiterate what you want doing, then it has Oppositional defiant disorder.

I use the term "it" because the DSM appears to disregard the fact the children are actually human-beings. Anything that you and I did as a child is now deemed as wrong...as a mental disorder. Normal behaviour is the new mental disorder, given fancy names and even fancier drugs. The authors of the DSM-5 robustly defend their actions - isn't defending one's actions a case of Oppositional defiant disorder?

Over 11,000 healthcare professionals, mainly from the US, have signed an online petition calling for the DSM-5 to be halted. The DSM authors don't want it halted, they are saying "No", they are being defiant.

I hear cries of "good grief", soon to be renamed "bad grief" because that's what the authors of the DSM tell us. Grief isn't normal any more, it shall now be deemed as a mental disorder. It's wrong to grieve the loss of someone, sure it's okay to miss them and mourn them...but only for a certain amount of time. Get over your loss, move on because if you don't you will be labelled as having bereavement-related depression.

Here's a scenario, 12 year old decides to hang themselves, it was on medication at the time of its death. Its parents are devastated. The initial shock of losing it and burying or cremating it goes on for longer than what is normal, their bereavement has moved into the phase of mental disorder, it's now bereavement-related depression and needs to be treated with the very same drugs that it was taking when it suicided 7 months previously.

I don't know about you but I feel The DSM-5 Mood Disorders Work Group are individually clinically insane or maybe just driven by the fact that the more illnesses there are to treat, the more drugs there are to prescribe - keeping their profession intact and secure for years to come.

The DSM-5 Mood Disorders Work Group are no more than heretics who are fast running out of ideas that promote pharmaceutical wares. Their delusions are worringly scary. With 11,000 of their peers opposing their proposals they continue, in their defiance, to stand their ground.

SFFFD - Separating Fact From Fiction Disorder can be thrown in their direction. It basically means someone with the inability to grasp reality.  The DSM-5 Mood Disorders Work Group have this in abundance, its like a cancer that has been slowly spreading over the years. Sadly, there is no cure for it.. it's a terminal disorder that is contagious amongst the medical profession and pharmaceutical industry. Patients are at risk of falling into this disorder by watching too many pharmaceutical TV commercials and/or visiting their doctor. It's a chemical imbalance caused by too many dine and dash lunches, cupcakes and tickets to the game, not to mention those freebie trips to hotels.

If I had my way, I'd disband the DSM work group, or at the very least restrain them as I believe that it is they who are a danger to the public.

The DSM-5 Mood Disorders Work Group are not a normal section of society trying to help the abnormal, they are the mentally ill finding ways to treat the normal.

That, ladies and gentlemen, is the equivalent of giving an arsonist a book of matches and a can of petrol.

Psychiatric Drugs In The Media

There's been quite a flurry of activity recently with regard to the mainstream media reporting on psychiatric drugs, particularly in the use of children. We had the UK first with a Channel 4 News Special.

Next we had the USA and ABC's flagship current affairs programme, 20/20, reporting on Foster care homes and the use of mind-altering drugs in children, some under the age of 1.

PART ONE

PART TWO

PART THREE

Then TV3's 60 Minutes from New Zealand reporting on the dangers of SSRi medication not only in children...but adults too. [No video but review can be read HERE]

I'd like to say the times are changin'...but there's a bloody long way to go.

Next week Ablechild's co-founders, Patricia Weathers and Sheila Matthews, appear on CNN with their take on the mass drugging of children.

There's a huge spanner been thrown into the works. The people are fighting back...in the name of those your drugs have harmed and killed.

ABC 20/20 Confront The Pill Pushers

Over the past week or so ABC News in America have been covering the plight of the thousands of children caught in the loop of the mental health system. These children have each had a poor start in life and have been placed into Foster care because, more often than not, they have been abused by their parents or, in some instances, have had to deal with the death of their parents.

Last night ABC's 20/20 rounded off their investigation with a 10 minute special entitled Confronting Doctors [As yet not available on YouTube]. It was, in essence, a pastiche of their two previous specials from Wednesday and Thursday but featured a more in-depth look at the case of 7 year-old Gabriel Myers.

Gabriel's father was in prison whilst his mother had become addicted to prescription drugs. One day she had drove to a shopping mall with Gabriel in the car and had fallen asleep. She was thrown into prison whilst Gabriel was placed into Foster care. [I use the word care loosely]

During the weeks that went by Gabriel was moved from home to home and saw a number of therapists. He became disruptive, trashing his room. From that point he was assigned to psychiatrist, Sohail Punjwani who, for reasons only known to himself, deemed Gabriel to be in need of psychotropic medication, this after a five-minute consultation  and a diagnosis based on nothing but personal opinion, an opinion that would ultimately result in 7 year-old Gabriel Myers taking his own life by wrapping a shower hose around his neck and hanging himself.

Gabriel's death was ruled as an accident but anyone who knows just how dangerous these drugs can be, not only for adults taking them but children too, will know that putting a child as young as 7 on a mixture of mind altering drugs was the probable causation into him taking his own life. There is overwhelming evidence that shows how these drugs can induce suicidal thoughts. Psychiatrists and the pharmaceutical industry alike will point to the trauma in young Gabriel's life as being the possible reason why he killed himself, kind of hypocritical when you consider for a moment that a child is thrown into a strange place with adults he has never met and children he has never met all the time missing his mom and wondering when he will see her again. Adding fuel to the fire [psychiatric drugs] was clearly not the answer, it was merely a way of suppressing or dumbing-down young Gabriel.

Sharyn Alfonsi of ABC News tracked down Gabriel's psychiatrist and asked him why he had prescribed these drugs to Gabriel.

Punjwani:  "Sad stories happen but that does not mean the doctor is responsible for it because we are in the business of taking care of these children."

Alfonsi then pressed Punjwani and asked him how much time he actually spent with Gabriel. She put it to him that he only spent 5 minutes in consultation with Gabriel.

Punjwani:  "That is untrue."

Later, and off camera, Punjwani conceded that it was possible that he only spent 5 minutes with Gabriel whilst adjusting his medication.

Alfonsi revealed that Punjwani has an arrest record for being in possession of cocaine and to avoid prosecution he agreed to go through a court mandated rehabilitation program.

Comment

The plight of Gabriel is truly tragic, it appears he was removed from one trauma to another, one burning building to another. His case is just a small part of a bigger picture, a picture that the world of the pharmaceutical industry, psychiatry and medicines regulators don't want the likes of you and I to see. It's a secret society where the 3 bodies that know the truth do everything in their power to suppress the truth. It's a wanton neglect of our little people whereby on the odd occasion we get the 'good' psychiatrists speaking out about this mindless form of abuse.

The prescribing physicians should hang their heads in shame, although I doubt very much if they have any conscience relating to the prescribing of these drugs to children who haven't even had a chance to develop a fully working brain. Doctor's, it could be argued, such as Punjwani are the ones with the mental disorders, it is an act of insanity to hand out brain altering medication to children on an assumption, particularly based on such little time spent with that child during consultation.

Insanity
1. The state of being seriously mentally ill; madness.
2.Extreme foolishness or irrationality.

I think it safe to suggest that anyone who thinks prescribing mind-altering drugs to a child suffering the trauma of being separated from their parents could fall into category 2 [above]

To make matters worse neither the pharmaceutical industry, psychiatry or medicines regulators take accountability for this huge failure, instead, they buck-pass by blaming one another and/or the child's original "illness". Are we expected to believe that young Gabriel Myers actually had an illness, that the majority of children placed in Foster care have an illness?

For too long we, firstly as human-beings and secondly as parents, have ignored the abuse of the mind that these drugs cause our children, we cannot see this abuse because their are no bruises, no broken bones, no bandages. Imagine, if you will, the brain of a small child. Apart from taking a severe blow to the head I can't think of any other way other than prescribing these medications that would cause brain trauma. To numb one's thinking, to suppress emotions such as grief or loss is, in my books at least, abuse.

It has become acceptable to use these dangerous medications on children, mainly, in part, to the massive promotional campaigns by the pharmaceutical industry and key opinion leaders [leading 'relnowned' psychiatrists] who add their names to ghostwritten publications that deem these drugs effective to use in children. As parents we too have a responsibility. A naughty son or daughter does not necessarily mean we have a little Damien Thorn or Regan McNeil on our hands. They should not be labelled with a mental disorder for showing human emotion. Furthermore, they should not be given cocktails of pharmaceutical drugs because they show signs of grief or loss.

The drugging of children in Foster care in America is appalling, it's by no means just an American problem, it's going on in other countries. We have a society that automatically labels unruly children as misfits, brats, we have an industry that labels them with psychiatric disorders. We have, in essence, the perfect set of lab rats to abuse and to make a whole heap of money whilst doing it.

The ABC trilogy of stories is very much the tip of the iceberg. Children in Foster care are 13 times more likely to be prescribed drugs that can cause a bio chemical imbalance than children not in care. It's a startling figure but those not in care who are prescribed these drugs are also in danger.

There are two kinds of bullies, there are those that abuse then there are those that stand back and watch the abuse without intervening. I'll leave the pharmaceutical industry, psychiatry and the medicines regulators to decide on which type of bully they are.

A lot of effort has come from advocates and organisations during the making of this series. It is because of people and organisations whose hearts are in the right places that ABC were able to broadcast across America, they were able to spread the awareness that has been created over the years by a long list of people who bang the drum constantly regarding the abuse of drugging children. The list is long but a special mention goes out to Sheila Matthews of Ablechild, Ken Kramer of Psych-Search and, of course, where would we all be without the Citizen's Commission on Human Rights.

If you are foolish enough to believe that this is the end of the matter, think again, there's a whole new breed of pill-pushing being promoted down under in Australia. If you think it's utterly ridiculous to give a child mind altering drugs because he is deemed to have a mental disorder then what would you think of someone who could predict if your child was going to get a mental disorder in future years and to nip it in the bud put your child on a heap of psychiatric drugs just like Gabriel Myers? Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, I give you the time-travelling DeLorean driving psychiatrist, Patrick McGorry.

ABC News Foster Care Investigation

Following on from Part I, ABC News aired the second part of their investigation into the mass drugging of children in Foster care homes across America. Part II centered around the death of 6 year-old Gabriel Myers who, after being placed in a Foster care home, was prescribed a powerful mix of antipsychotic drugs after a 5 minute consultation with his psychiatrist, Dr. Sohail Punjwani.

ABC News catches up with Punjwani to ask him why.

Also featured in the ABC News investigation is FDA spokesperson, Robert Nelson. Nelson is asked, in essence, who is going to accept responsibility for the mass drugging of children. His response and demeanor during the short interview leaves a lot to be desired.

Later today ABC News will air the third part of their investigation.

The 'off-label' prescribing of powerful mind altering drugs to children is a huge problem of epic proportions not only in America but other countries too. Limp-wristed medicine regulators shirk any responsibility claiming that the warnings about prescribing these medications to children are clearly stated on the labelling and in warning letters to doctors. They then sit back and allow the very same doctors they have warned to prescribe the medication to children 'off-label'.

It's mindless and the only industry that I can think of where an unapproved product is...well, approved.

My disdain for medicine regulators is well known, only last week I covered the MHRA's proposed SSRI Learning Module for Clinical Practitioners in the UK and showed how utterly contradictory it is. [Parts 1, 2 and 3.]

What we have here is a failure by adults to hold up their hands and accept responsibility. It's buck-passing of the highest order and is basically putting children on a never ending Highway to Hell.

Senators and congressmen take note: The root of this problem is The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders [DSM]. Once you see how utterly ridiculous the "illnesses" are, you will be able to understand why tax payers are being ripped off at the expense of the welfare and safety of children. You want to eradicate the problem, then go to the root cause and ask the authors of the DSM for scientific proof. It's a manual that is basically a licence to print money for the pharmaceutical industry.

12 Year-Old Kid Speaks before Senate and Congress about Psychiatric Drugs

Sen Tom Carper: "We need to figure out what works."

There's always a defining moment in history, I believe I just witnessed it, I never expected that defining moment to come from the voice of a 12 year old boy from the state of Texas.

Ke' Onte Cook gave evidence before the Senate and Congress today regarding his experience in Foster care. The Subcommittee on Federal Financial Management, Government Information, Federal Services, and International Security had gathered in the wake of a report by The US Government Accountability Office [GAO] that showed that the prescribing of drugs to children in state care is out of control.

Startling facts were revealed in the online stream:

  • Children in Foster care were prescribed mind altering drugs up to 4.7 more times than children not in care.
  • Thousands of children had received more than the recommended dose of mind altering drugs
  • Over 600 children in state care were on 5 or more mind altering drugs at any given time
  • 5,265 infants [under the age of 1] were prescribed mind altering drugs.

The bullet points above may shock you, what's even more shocking is that this data comes from just 5 States pooled in the GAO investigation. Can you begin to imagine the figure if all the US States were pooled?

Sen Brown [Massachusetts] told the congress that nearly 40% of Foster children in Massachusetts had been prescribed 1 or more psychiatric drug. On learning that over 5,000 infants across five States had been prescribed these drugs he said it was "shocking and disturbing".

Sen Carper, who chaired the meeting, added, "We can't stand idly by while children's lives are put in danger."

Sen Collins [Maine] added her disgust with, "I am troubled by the use of psychiatric drugs for use in children in Foster care." She also told congress that the GAO report had found that in Texas children in care were 53 more times likely to be prescribed 5 psychiatric drugs at once more than children not in care and added that there was thousands of infants on psychotropic drugs.

The Senate sat in stunned silence as they listened to a statement from 12 year-old Ke' Onte Cook. Ke' Onte had been place in care from the age of 6 and a half. He told the panel that he was told that if he didn't take his drugs he would be punished by not being allowed to watch TV. He did not know why he was on drugs or how many he was taking, he could not remember. Ke' Onte also informed the panel that later on he had been diagnosed with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder [PTSD] Insomnia, Depression and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder [ADHD] during which he could not process thoughts, felt glazed and tired, had stomach aches and a "lights out" mood. He added that he was first prescribed the medications [3 different drugs a day] because he was throwing tantrums and was upset after being taken into State care.

Sen Carper asked Ke' Onte how he managed to get off the medication. Ke' Onte informed him that he sought the help of an Attachment Therapist who talked to him about his history and added that "It helped me to get over the anger." When asked by Sen Carper if he had a message he would like to add Ke' Onte replied, "Medication isn't going to help children with problems, it just sedates them."

Sen Carper concluded that "We need to figure out what works." and told Ke' Onte, "Some good is going to come out of what you experienced."

Drug Pushers Target 4 Year Old Kids

"You are depressed because you have a chemical imbalance"

"You are shy because you have a chemical imbalance"

"You are anxious because you have a chemical imbalance"

""You have ADHD because we said so"

Back in the day, when SSRi's such as Prozac and Seroxat came to market, the drug companies reeled in the consumers by telling them they had something wrong with them, a chemical imbalance was deemed to be the cause of their feeling anxious, shy or depressed. "Seroxat", we were told, "corrects that chemical imbalance."

Amazing how they actually got away with such false and misleading statements.

These days it would appear that no explanation is needed. Psychiatrists and drug companies no longer use the chemical imbalance fact...because it never was fact. If they do tout the chemical imbalance theory at you then I recommend you watch the short video at the end of this post for a suitable response to them]

Today sees drug companies advertising by proxy. Key opinion leaders, better known as leading psychiatrists in the world of pediatrics, do the pushing for them. They promote illnesses such as ADHD then announce that there is a cure...in the shape of a pill. Because there are no advertising guidelines for a psychiatrist's opinions they can say pretty much what they want to without backing up their claims with any scientific data.

Apparently it's heredity that is one of the causes of ADHD. That's right folks, if you were a little boisterous in childhood then chances are that your offspring will be born mentally ill.

Now, I wasn't the model pupil in my schooldays, quite the opposite in fact. I kind of questioned what was being taught, it was confusing to be told in history lessons that we derived from apes yet an hour or so later, in Religious Education , I was told that we were created in the image of God. "So God looks like an ape, right?", I'd ask. This was usually greeted with the cane or a detention or in some cases I was told to seek confession for my sins. The sin of an inquisitive mind - where's that in the Bible?

There were lessons where I would get bored so I'd craft paper aeroplanes or flick paper pellets with an elastic band. Then there were the times of puberty when all I could think of was mattress dancing with any of the girls whose eyes I happened to meet. This, in turn, would have me day dreaming out of the window and thinking of The Bionic Woman [Lindsey Wagner] or tennis ace [Chrissie Evert]

Nowadays such behaviour would be deemed as something only a mental child would do and I'd probably be carted off to the headmaster [straightjacket affixed] and be sent home on the proviso that I met with my GP to discuss my 'abnormalities'.

Puberty huh, such an imbalance on the brain.

Today, it seems, kids can have a mental disorder before they attend their senior schools, in fact before they attend their primary schools...which leads me nicely to a recent article published in today's Telegraph.

The headline reads "Give Ritalin to four-year-olds with ADHD, say experts." The article, by Stephen Adams, reports on how the American Academy of Pediatrics [AAP] claim, "Treating children at a young age is important, because when we can identify them earlier and provide appropriate treatment, we can increase their chances of succeeding in school."

He [Dr Mark Worlaich, professor of paediatrics at the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine] and colleagues, writes Adams, advised that a doctor "should initiate an evaluation for ADHD for any child four through 18 years of ago who presents with academic or behavioural problems and symptoms of inattention, hyperactivity, or impulsivity".

Ah, I see. So, four year-olds who are not interested in learning the alphabet or reading along to Thomas the Tank Engine stories are actually mentally ill?

WAY TO GO Mr Pediatric man!

You know, it would be great if you could give 4 year-olds a leg up to childhood rather than drug them and turn them into a dribbling mess. Interestingly, the AAP came under fire, albeit moderately, from Dr John Houston, a consultant paediatrician based at Lorn and Islands Hospital in Oban, who said, "In the UK we are more reluctant to medicate our kids, and I think that's a very good thing."

Reading between the lines it would be nice to think that Dr Houston was telling the AAP to head on back to America with their delusions. Sadly, it's the opposite as more and more UK doctor's have bought into the idea that normal behaviour [daydreaming, tiredness, being boisterous] is now treatable with mind altering drugs.

I can't wait for their day of Judgement.

This post is dedicated to Chrissie Evert and Lindsey Wagner, whom collectively made my childhood and teen years so much more pleasurable than any doctor today thinks they can.

Have The American Academy of Pediatrics Gone Stark Raving Bonkers?

Image: seattleweekly.com

With so many people fast becoming aware about the dangers of prescribing children psychiatric drugs one is bound to face opposition, you know, those that say, "but children need these drugs, ADHD is a mental disorder", and all that other psycho-babble clap-trap.

Please give it up for the American Academy of Pediatrics.

[Insert golf like applause here]

Yes folks, they have damned everyone and are pushing ahead with utter lunacy by claiming that Primary care physicians should begin evaluating children for attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) at age 4 and continue through age 18.

[Insert laughter here]

The new guideline, from the wacky mob of the AAP, will appear in next month's issue of Pediatrics, so everyone who reads it can be duped by the following:

1. Primary care physicians should initiate an ADHD evaluation for any child 4 through 18 who has school or behavioral problems and symptoms of inattention, hyperactivity, or impulsivity.

2. As a prerequisite for diagnosis of ADHD, a patient's symptoms and behavior must meet the criteria set forth in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fourth Edition. Physicians should rely primarily on information from parents, guardians, school, and mental health specialists involved in the child's care. Additionally, physicians should rule out any alternative causes for the child's behavior and symptoms.

3. The clinical evaluation should include assessment of conditions that might coexist with ADHD, including emotional or behavioral, developmental, and physical conditions.

4. ADHD should be viewed as a chronic condition and patients with the condition should be considered special needs children and adolescents.

5. The approach to treatment of ADHD varies according to patient age. For preschool-age children, behavioral interventions should be considered first-line therapy. If resources to provide such interventions are not available, the physician should carefully weigh the risks of drug therapy at an early age with those associated with delayed diagnosis and treatment. For children 6 to 11, the AAP recommends combination treatment with medication and behavioral therapy if feasible. Evidence for use of stimulants in this age group is particularly strong. Older children should begin treatment with medication, and physicians might also prescribe behavioral therapy, although the evidence in this age group is not as strong as in the younger patients.

6. Medication for ADHD should be titrated so as to achieve maximum benefit with a minimum of adverse events.

Gone are the days when it was justifiable to fall asleep in the back of the classroom without waking up and finding a nurse standing there with a cup of water in one hand and a bottle of pills in the other.

Back in my day, it was far more less of a crime to fall asleep or to drop a pencil, fart, belch or stare out of the window. I was either given detention or 2 or 3 strokes of the cane [God bless those Catholic schools]

To be honest, six of the best is far more appealing than a childhood on mind altering drugs that would make one appear as if they had just been to an all night rave and popped numerous ecstasy tabs.

It makes me wonder if those at The American Academy of Pediatrics actually bark at the moon and still believe that people who are left-handed are evil.

I'm thinking of billing the The American Academy of Pediatrics for a new pair of underpants. Their six-point guidelines have just had me in a complete state of apoplexy, so much so that I have pissed myself laughing.

The Counterfeit Shyness Epidemic

A few UK newspapers ran with stories yesterday regarding future proposals in the DSM.

The updated DSM [The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders] is due in 2013 and those wacky white coated men have covered all bases when it comes to targeting children.

Not content with S.A.D. [Social Anxiety Disorder], the wannabe Gods have come up with O.D.D [Oppositional Defiant Disorder]

Let's just take a look at the acronyms used for each of these disorders. Sad and Odd.

According to the wisdom of these nutty professors, your child may have S.A.D. if he/she is quiet in the classroom, you know the kind of kid I'm talking about here, the one who chooses not to raise his/her hand and volunteer an answer. Yup, drug them.

On the other end of the scale we have O.D.D. These are the children, who unlike the S.A.D. individuals, choose to do the opposite. They talk back to 'adults' and may oppose what they are being asked/told to do.

For those in between these two labels, don't fear, you won't feel left out. Early intervention of "mental disorders" means you too can have a label just like your friends. Just tick a series of boxes and your destiny will be planned for you by the white coated soothsayers. Your parents will be informed, "Dear Mr and Mrs Jones, although the mental health screening of your child showed no apparent mental disorder, we feel, by the answers given in the screening survey, that your child has the early signs of psychosis. This may become full blown within the next five years or so. We highly recommend that they be monitored by our team.

Sounds absurd doesn't it? Did deep and you will find that this is already happening.

I foresee future disorders being invented, just so those DSM shills can report back to the pharmaceutical companies with cap in hand, "We did what you asked of us massa, all bases covered massa."

Gone are the days where children can have an imagination, if they are caught daydreaming in class, label them then drug them. If they answer a teacher back, label them and drug them. If they are seen to be mourning the loss of a parent, brother, sister, grandparent or friend, label them and drug them. Yup, another gem from the proposed DSM is "Depressive disorder". If a child mourns the loss of any of the above for longer than 6 months, label them and drug them.

Call me an old cynic if you want but isn't this push to drug children a reflection on decisions made by medicine regulators regarding SSRi's like Seroxat, Cipramil etc?

A while ago, the UK regulator, MHRA, made recommendations that antidepressants like Seroxat should not be given to children. That put a huge dent in the coffers for the pharmaceutical industry. Only way around this would seemingly be to invent a few more disorders. Hey Presto!... and the licence to print money starts all over again.

Don't expect the MHRA to intervene with the latest in the line of new mental disorders. They are spineless and, after all, wholly funded by the pharmaceutical industry. Give it about 10 years and they may send out warning letters to doctors regarding the medication used to treat children who are sad, mourning or just a little bit boisterous. They allow the pharmaceutical industry to make wads of cash before intervening, you see. Everyone, except your child, is a winner.

When the average person reads of the good deeds done by the pharmaceutical industry such as various donations to war-torn countries or vaccines to the poorer countries, it makes us sleep better at night, knowing that big pharma is really looking out for us. That is the image they like to portray, it's a confidence trick, one which they are past masters at.

Delve a little deeper and you may just find a more sinister reason behind the pharmaceutical industries apparent generosity.

As a child growing up I was always out playing games. I fear Hopscotch will now have rules attached. If your child lands on a crack in the pavement then they may just have a mental disorder... because those men in white coats want them to.

Why Did the Children Cross the Street? - Because they didn't want to be diagnosed with ADHD

It appears those men in white coats will do anything to support the ADHD invention. The latest 'study' apparently shows children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder [ADHD] have more trouble avoiding traffic when crossing streets than other children.

The cynic in me sees psychiatrists attending the bedsides of children knocked over by cars. "Once your child is on the mend Mrs Jones, we will see about putting him/her on some medication so he/she doesn't get knocked over again." The ambulance chasing lawyers really have their work cut out these days.

Researchers at Alabama University devised a computer-generated street intersection to see if 39 children, ages 7 to 10 with ADHD crossed the street less safely than 39 ADHD-free kids. They found that children with 'ADHD' looked both ways before crossing the street, just like the control group. The difference was that they opted to cross under more dangerous conditions.

Gadzooks! Those pesky little risk-takers eh?

More worringly, the study tells us that the children with 'ADHD' had their medication stopped 24 hours prior to the study. On this basis, researchers have deemed that those with ADHD are more likely to be involved in car accidents.

Here's an idea.

Why don't these researchers claim kids who miss a dose of their medications are more susceptible to road traffic accidents? They could then spin their findings and announce how important it is to take these mind-altering drugs!

For the love of God, why oh why are these white coated pill pushers always trying to find ways to convince themselves and parents that children need drugging?

This study is utterly ridiculous and deeply flawed.

I put it to Alabama University that these 'ADHD' kids were more than likely experiencing withdrawal, their senses were not heightened as much as the 'normal' kids.

Despina Stavrinos, co-author of the study and an assistant professor at the University of Alabama at Birmingham Injury Control Research Center, said she hopes to conduct a similar test with children while they're taking ADHD medication to see if their street-crossing behavior is any safer. She'd also like to follow the children into adulthood to study whether they become risky drivers.

I foresee a future where car accident victims legs and arms are put in plaster and their heads are bandaged. The doctor will do the hospital rounds and it won't just be pain-killers the child will be offered.

The world has gone crazy. The white coated pill pushers are part of that craziness.

Child "Protection" Services Dope 3 Year Old On Risperidone

HOUSTON, TX - This is one of those stories that highlight how perverse the justice system can be, not only that, it also shows how utterly incompetent the whole system of child protection can be.

Three year old Rachel Harrison was taken off her parents because they had dabbled in recreational use of cocaine. As an outsider looking in I was preparing myself for a story of neglect and abuse and would have applauded the quick thinking of the Child Protective Services [CPS]

However, watching the video [below] leaves me scratching my head and makes me wonder why the CPS are not up on a charge of abduction and child abuse.

It's hard to know where to start with this story. Rachel's parents had their child taken away because they both occasionally took cocaine for recreational use. Evidence, that came out in court, showed that their 3 year old daughter was never abused or neglected, this evidence coming from the CPS!

Once in 'care', Rachel was put on Risperidone, an antipsychotic normally prescribed for schizophrenia. According to the reporter Rachel was also put on other drugs. Nobody, not even the CPS, seem to know,or want to divulge, who made that decision.

Now I know that one should never judge a book by its cover but watching the video I don't see two cocaine addicts. I see two parents who are holding their hands up and admitting their recreational activity was a tad silly. Rachel was never around when they took cocaine - her mother, Christina, tested positive while having her appendix out in hospital.

This was enough for the CPS to take Rachel away, pass her around from facility to facility and medicate her to the point where she sat in a corner looking dishevelled and dribbling from the mouth.

Who are the abusers here? A healthy child is plucked from her surroundings, thrown into a system and given mind altering drugs. Do we blame the CPS for this wanton neglect, do we blame the basket case whose idea it was to drug a 3 year old or do we blame her parents?

If Rachel's parents had passed some cocaine onto their child there would be uproar. If they had passed her around from relative to relative making sure she had her daily fix of cocaine then I'd be the first one shouting to lock them up for life. Thing is, they didn't. It was the CPS who took charge of her, it was the CPS who stood by and watched as she was prescribed Risperidone by some lunatic.

Watch the video...you will be amazed as I when you learn that the CPS still want custody of little Rachel Harrison.

It's Official: Antipsychotic Drugs Labelling Update

Health Canada has released a warning to Healthcare professionals and consumers regardng Antipsychotic drugs and the risk of abnormal muscle movements and withdrawal symptoms in newborns exposed during pregnancy.

Now they tell us!

Antipsychotic drugs: Labelling update regarding the risk of abnormal muscle movements and withdrawal symptoms in newborns exposed during pregnancy.

Health Canada is informing healthcare professionals and consumers that the prescribing information for the entire class of antipsychotic drugs is being updated. The updated labelling will contain safety information on the potential risk of abnormal muscle movements and withdrawal symptoms in newborns whose mothers were treated with these drugs during the third trimester of their pregnancy.

So, if a child in its mother's womb can suffer withdrawal by proxy, just imagine what suffering the children throughout classrooms of the UK, Canada, America, Australia etc will have to endure.

Here's a list of some antipsychotic drugs that are causing severe withdrawal problems with children today. Will the regulators be doing anything to help the millions of children worldwide that are hooked on these?

aripiprazole - Abilify

clozapine - Clozaril

olanzapine - Zyprexa

quetiapine - Seroquel

risperidone - Risperdal

ziprasidone - Geodon

Do you wish to continue labelling children with psychiatric disorders just so drugs [such as the above] can be ingested by children?

Wake up world. It's fraud, pure and simple.

Father of 10 Year Old Suicide Victim Blames Medication.

10 year old Harry Hucknall

Back in March I wrote about the tragic suicide of 10 year old Harry Hucknall.

10 year old Harry had been prescribed Ritalin and Prozac by child psychiatrist Sumitra Srivastava. This because Harry was having difficulty concentrating at school, was being bullied by classmates.

Harry was found hanging from a belt at his home in Dalton-in-Furness, Cumbria, back in September 2010.

The inquest, held in April of this year, was told that Harry had more drugs in his body than the normal level for adults suffering from the same problems.

Harry's father is now asking awkward questions...and he has every right to.

In an article from Today's Mail Online Mr Hucknall questions the reasoning behind the child psychiatrist prescribing his son these drugs.

‘When I was growing up there were lots of kids like Harry — a bit over-active, a bit naughty, who didn’t always do as they were told. Now they are branded with a complaint called attention deficit hyperactivity disorder,
‘What is it? What has changed? Is there some weird disease in the air? Harry was just a normal little boy. But because we live in 2011 he, and many other kids, are on tablets.
‘It seems nearly every child has suddenly developed this ADHD. What a load of nonsense. It’s an easy get-out for parents and schools who can’t control children.’

Hucknall is pretty much bang on the money here.

Sue Reid, who wrote the Mail Online article, writes:

These medicines are being given to very young children — one aged just 15 months, according to our investigations — despite official guidelines from the manufacturer and the fact that the UK’s National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) prohibits their use for those under six.

Last week, educational psychologist David Traxson told me he suspects that in the West Midlands at least 100 three, four and five-year-olds are on Ritalin or similar drugs. If this is replicated around the country — as is likely — the number will run into thousands.

‘These young children are taking powerful, potentially addictive drugs and no one knows what will happen to their brains in the future,’ he warned.

Further evidence of this theory based "science" came when Harry's father challenged the child psychiatrist during the inquest. He asked Sumitra Srivastava why he had put his son on Ritalin and Prozac. Srivastava told him it was because he had a chemical imbalance in his brain. Hucknall then asked him, “How do you know? Did you take chemicals from his brain?” Srivastava responded by telling him it was a theory.

The article highlights how children's parents are being granted state benefits if their children are on these types of drugs, Sue Reid writes:

For instance, one family in the West Midlands has two children receiving medication for ADHD. They get £600 a month in disability allowances for each of the two children who have been diagnosed with the ailment.

A third child is being examined by psychologists to see if he is also a sufferer. If he is diagnosed, the family’s annual haul from the state will be £21,600 tax free.

The current government are revamping the benefits system, they want to get people back into the workplace, that seems to be their main initiative. I have not once heard any utterance from Cameron and/or Clegg about parents receiving benefits because their children are on antidepressant type medication. It's a win-win situation for the pharmaceutical industry.

Harry's father has a long road ahead of him if he wishes to get answers. He could start with the UK regulator, the MHRA, but I'd advise against that. The MHRA have sat on this problem for years, they shrug their shoulders and send out warning letters to doctors that these drugs can be potentially dangerous if given to children. They don't go that extra mile and ban them because they are powerless to do so - it wouldn't benefit them either, they are entirely funded by the pharmaceutical industry.

Harry Hucknall is not the first child to commit suicide as a result of ingesting these powerful drugs, he won't be the last. It's a crying shame that the regulator know this, as do the manufacturers of these drugs.

Mr Hucknall, your journey is about to begin, once you start digging you will be appalled by those that profess to protect are in fact part of the problem.

There's a ground-breaking documentary that questions the use of these drugs in children. "Dead Wrong: How Psychiatric Drugs Can Kill Your Child". It's heartbreaking and will intensify the anger of parents whose children have died as a result of a combination of drugs for invented illnesses that have been given the all clear by the combination of psychiatrists, pharmaceutical companies and medicine regulators [The Psychopharmaceutical Monopoly]

The documentary is narrated by Celeste Steubing, her son, Matthew, jumped off a bridge and killed himself whilst on psychiatric medication. I've met Celeste, I've hugged her and held her hand while she sobbed. I've looked into her vacant eyes where the burning question burns deeply. Why?

It's evil and greed combined with cowardice, it's the Psychopharma Monopoly.

Sue Reid's full article is a must read for every parent in Britain.

CCHR's doucumentary, "Dead Wrong: How Psychiatric Drugs Can Kill Your Child", is a must watch for every parent globally.

You're being duped folks and children are dying because of it.
