Supreme Court Accepts Writ - Glaxo Implicated

GlaxoSmithKline, along with MSD Pharmaceuticals Pvt. Ltd. (subsidiary of Merck) the Central Drugs Standard Control Organization ( Indian Drugs Controller) and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation have been implicated in a writ filed by Kalpana Mehta, Nalini Bhanot and Dr Rukmini Rao President of the Gramya Resource Centre for Women.

The writ, accepted by the Supreme court of India, outlines serious allegations regarding the trialing of the HPV vaccines Gardasil and Cervarix on thousands of girls between the ages of 10 and 14, in the states of Andhra Pradesh and Gujarat. The court has asked the government of India to file it's response to the petition with immediate effect.

The writ claims that both Gardasil and Cervarix were illegally brought into the States by the Program for Appropriate Technology in Health (PATH) and administered to Indian children before safety and efficacy was established.

The writ also states:

"...according to studies done by the multinational companies abroad, a certain percentage of subjects in the PATH trialling of the HPV vaccines have either suffered serious systemic adverse reactions or autoimmune disorders’ post HPV vaccination. They believe there may be as many as 500 girls In Andhra Pradesh and 700 others in Gujarat may have suffered a serious adverse event or immune disorder."

Kalpana Mehta, Nalini Bhanot and Dr Rukmini Rao also allege the following:

  • There was an undisclosed international agenda between the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF), PATH and the World Health Organization (WHO) to provide a platform for marketing the HPV vaccines in the private and public sector.
  • BMGF, PATH and WHO were criminally negligent trialling the vaccines on a vulnerable, uneducated and under-informed population school administrators, students and their parents who were not provided informed consent or advised of potential adverse effects or required to be monitored post-vaccination.
  • The Government of India was provided false safety and efficacy data and that the HPV vaccines were licensed without adequate research.
  • Merck & Co Inc., and GlaxoSmithKline and were negligent in their denial over the presence of viral DNA in the vaccines. Experts have recognized that the risks associated with recombinant vaccines (genetically modified microbes) are not completely known. It is universally accepted, however, that they can cause infections and tumours including cancer.

All part of an era, eh Andrew?

In January 2012 GlaxoSmithKline were fined 400,000 Argentinian Pesos [about £60,000] for its part in the 2007/08 vaccine trials conducted in Argentina where 14 children died.

Charges included experimenting with human beings, falsifying parental authorizations so babies could participate in vaccine-trials conducted by the laboratory from 2007 to 2008.

At the time the Buenos Aires Herald reported that, "Since 2007, 15,000 children under the age of one from Mendoza, San Juan and Santiago del Estero have been included in the research protocol, a statement of what the study is trying to achieve. Babies were recruited from poor families that attended to public hospitals.

"A total of 7 babies died in Santiago del Estero; 5 in Mendoza; and 2 in San Juan."

Glaxo appealled the decision claiming, "None of the deaths are related to the vaccines", and added, "Likewise, Glaxo doesn't pay any kind of bribes in order to lead any clinical studies here in Argentina or at any other location around the globe."

Yeh right.

In 2010 I was sent a promotional DVD by a journalist. The DVD was, according to the journalist, sent out to GP practices across the UK just hours before the launch of Glaxo's Cervarix.

The journalist added that "the DVD was posted with the G.P. magazine and was a clever marketing strategy aimed at busy G.P.'s to 'brainwash' them into believing that the Cervarix vaccine protected young women from the perils of cervical cancer."

The following video, which has had over 3,600 views, juxtapose the claims made by GSK in the promotional video.
