CHICAGO, May 21 (Reuters) - Avandia, a popular drug to treat type 2 diabetes made by GlaxoSmithKline Plc.(GSK.L: Quote, Profile, Research , increased the risk of death from heart problems by 64 percent and the risk of heart attack by 43 percent, U.S. researchers said on Monday.
Researchers at The Cleveland Clinic said more than 65 percent of the deaths among diabetic patients are attributed to heart disease. The study will be published in the New England Journal of Medicine.
