ADHD Drugs Make Studying Easier Claims

UBC psychiatrist Dr. Derryck Smith by a reflecting pond near his home in Vancouver on Saturday, April 09, 2011. Smith says there might actually be benefits to society in allowing doctors to prescribe such medications such as Adderall and Ritalin purely to make people smarter.

It would appear that cognitive enhancing drugs such as Ritalin and Adderall are now been promoted by University of British Columbia psychiatry professor, Dr. Derryck Smith.

Smith's outrageous claims appear in an article from The Province, an online newspapers from BC, Canada.

Damaian Inwood writes:

University students using “smart drugs” to help them with their studies would be better off having them prescribed by their doctors, says a University of B.C. psychiatry professor.

The article goes on to claim that Dr. Derryck Smith said the drugs make studying easier and the results better.

Smith is the Head of the Department of Psychiatry and Psychiatrist in Chief at Children's & Women's Health Centre of B.C. He is also a clinical professor in the Faculty of Medicine at the University of British Columbia. He is also one of the heads of CADDAC [Centre for ADHD Awareness Canada]

No obvious conflict of interest then.
