GSK Australia: "Aropax corrects the chemical imbalance and so helps relieve the symptoms of depression."

I pointed out some time ago on this blog how the Australian GlaxoSmithKline website still promoted it's best seller by claiming, "Aropax corrects the chemical imbalance and so helps relieve the symptoms of depression." [Link]

Well, it seems they have now dropped that claim. Looking at the same section of their website today shows no utterance of this claim - they do still however run with:

"Depression is longer lasting or more severe than the ‘low moods’ that everyone has from time to time. It is thought to be caused by a chemical imbalance in parts of the brain. This imbalance affects your whole body and can cause emotional and physical symptoms."

During it's early promotion Seroxat/Paxil/Aropax was heavily promoted by this theory.

Good to see GSK Australia finally dropping this false claim...even if it did take them a number of years to do so years - particularly as the FDA Psychopharm Advisory Chair acknowledged in 2006 that there was no evidence for SSRI chemical imbalance.
