GlaxoSmithKline's Avandia. Are the Regulators in Bed With the Industry?
Tomorrow [Monday, 6th Sept] sees the BBC flagship programme, Panorama, once again expose the failings of the British medicine regulatory system, the MHRA, with regard to the way they have [once again] failed to act promptly with regard to the serious adverse reactions to GlaxoSmithKline's diabetes drug, Avandia [Rosiglitazone]
There have been many concerns regarding Avandia over the years, many of which have been covered by investigative journalist, Evelyn Pringle.
Tomorrow's airing on BBC One is likely to infuriate patients and doctor's alike here in the UK. They will have many questions, one of which is, to me at least, obvious. Why on earth have they not been protected by the British medicine regulatory system?
No doubt blogs will start appearing soon, created by patients and advocates in the UK who need answers to questions.
If investigative journalists such as Evelyn Pringle and Shelley Jofre [BBC] can exposed dangerous drugs then questions should be asked why the MHRA are not doing the same.
Below are some links to Evelyn Pringle's articles about Avandia, some of which date back to 2007. Evelyn is an Award Winning Investigative Journalist and Researcher.
