Glaxo Quietly Settling Paxil [Seroxat] Lawsuits

No admission of liability but lots of money being thrown in the direction of claimants.

Bloomberg has the latest update regarding the huge settlements GlaxoSmithKline are making with regard to the Paxil lawsuits in America. They are reporting that GSK has agreed to pay more than $1 billion to resolve more than 800 cases alleging its Paxil antidepressant caused birth defects in some users’ children.

Furthermore they add:

The birth-defect settlements bring to more than $2 billion the amount Glaxo has agreed to pay to resolve a variety of Paxil-related suits, including claims it caused suicides or attempted suicides and addiction problems.

GlaxoSmithKline's Sarah Alspach chipped in with the obligatory...

“GSK believes it acted properly and responsibly in conducting its clinical trial program, in marketing the medicine, in monitoring its safety once it was approved for use and in updating pregnancy information in the medicine’s label as new information became available.”

GlaxoSmithKline are the subject of a UK Group Action. The case goes to trial later this year.

The Seroxat Group Action claims are being pursued under the Consumer Protection Act [CPA] 1987.

The CPA provides for a non-fault based liability if the product is found to be defective and to have caused injury as a result. The Claimants allege difficulties in withdrawing from the drug.

The action is due for trial in the High Court in London later this year.

As yet, GlaxoSmithKline, have made no approach to settle this particular case despite settling with US litigants in similar withdrawal cases.

In all honesty, I would just love it if GlaxoSmithKline stood in the High Court and presented evidence that suggested there *wasn't* a problem regarding Paxil withdrawal. The items of disclosure obtained by the claimant's lawyers would then become public and I would love nothing more than to upload them for the whole world to see on here.

The full Bloomberg article can be read HERE

Last year Glaxo were ordered to pay $2.5million over claims that its Paxil antidepressant caused birth defects. Jurors in state court in Philadelphia deliberated about seven hours over two days before finding Glaxo failed to properly warn doctors and pregnant users of Paxil’s risk. The panel awarded $2.5 million in compensatory damages to the family of Lyam Kilker. The 3-year-old was born with heart defects his mother blamed on the drug.

Glaxo appealed the decision but have since settled.

PILOTS & SSRi's - The 58 page document

I obtained the following 58 page document from the Federal Aviation Administration through the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA)

Investigative journalist, Evelyn Pringle, has exposed what the Federal Aviation Administration failed to take into consideration in their decision to allow pilots to fly under the influence of antidepressants.

The 58 page document can now be downloaded as a PDF

SSRIs Render Unfriendly Skies - By Evelyn Pringle

Some of you may know that last month I received a 58 page document from the Federal Aviation Administration. It was regarding a Freedom of Information request I had submitted in relation to a proposal that will allow pilots to control aircraft whilst on certain SSRi medications.

Much of the month of June was taken up with me reporting on the Sara Carlin inquest, to be honest, I reached the point of burn-out once the inquest had finished.

I therefore forwarded the 58 page document on to a Evelyn who is a terrific writer. I didn't really know anyone else who could do it justice.

Here is the result of Evelyn Pringle's study of the 58 page document:

SSRIs Render Unfriendly Skies - By Evelyn Pringle

The SSRI antidepressant makers are desperate to find new customers, so they recently have been focusing on capturing groups for which the drugs were usually considered off limits. The latest marketing coup managed to open up sales to roughly 614,000 American pilots.

Under a new policy announced on April 5, 2010, pilots diagnosed with depression can seek permission from the Federal Aviation Administration to take one of four SSRIs, including Eli Lilly’s Prozac, Pfizer’s Zoloft, and Forest Laboratories' Celexa and Lexapro.

"The FAA should reverse its ruling before it's too late and hundreds of lives are lost when a pilot becomes impulsive, suicidal or violent--or just loses his sharpness--under the influence of antidepressant medication," said SSRI expert, Dr Peter Breggin, in an April 19, 2010 Huffington Post commentary.

The Citizens Commission on Human Rights is also calling on the FAA to rethink allowing pilots to take SSRI in light of a new report issued last month by the National Transportation Safety Board, on a February 1, 2008 plane crash in North Carolina, by a crazy acting pilot on Zoloft, that killed all six persons on board

The report said the pilot failed to maintain control of the plane during instrument flying conditions and "deliberately descended below the minimum descent altitude." The plane stalled and crashed while circling after an aborted landing.

"Review of the cockpit voice recorder (CVR) audio revealed that the pilot had displayed some non-professional behavior before initiating the approach," the NTSB reported.

The CVR recorded the pilot singing: “Save my life I’m going down for the last time," before beginning a commentary in which he told passengers: "If anybody back there believes in the good Lord, I believe now would be a good time to hit your knees."

A review of medical records documented that "from December 4, 2006 through December 31, 2007, the pilot had filled 6 prescriptions for 30 tablets of 50 mg sertraline (Zoloft)," the report said.

The records indicated that he had been treated previously with two other antidepressant medications for “anxiety and depression” and a history of “impatience” and “compulsiveness,” the NTSB noted.

An investigation of another plane crash, resulting in two fatalities in Kingsport, Tennessee, in August 2003, found Zoloft in the blood and liver of a private flight instructor, according to an accident report by the NTSB.

In the policy statement published in the Federal Register, the FAA seems to justify the use of these drugs via the fully debunked "chemical imbalance in the brain" theory when writing: "All these medications are SSRIs, antidepressants that help restore the balance of serotonin, a naturally occurring chemical substance found in the brain."

"Increasingly accepted and prevalently used, these four antidepressants may be used safely in appropriate cases with proper oversight and have fewer side effects than previous generations of antidepressants," the FAA wrote, with no citation to any scientific paper to back up this assertion.

In fact, the current labels on SSRIs warn that "anxiety, agitation, panic attacks, insomnia, irritability, hostility, aggressiveness, impulsivity, akathisia (psychomotor restlessness), hypomania, and mania, have been reported in adult and pediatric patients treated for major depressive disorder as well as for other indications, both psychiatric and nonpsychiatric."

"Even when not severe, these reactions impair judgment and increase the likelihood of accidents and violence," according to Dr Breggin.

CCHR has set up a great website with a one-of-a-kind search engine that allows the public and officials to access the database on side effects reported to the FDA on SSRIs, and every other psychiatric drug. The site also has a search engine to access all the International warnings and studies on psychiatric drugs which have been summarized so they are easy to understand, even to a lay person

Input Only From the Choir

On April 6, 2010, Bob Fiddaman, author of the long-running popular website and blog, "Seroxat Sufferers," sent a request to the FAA, under the Freedom of Information Act, seeking information on the change in policy.

In the Federal Register, the FAA claims it came to its decision after "careful consideration." However, in the 58 pages of documents sent to Fiddaman on June 9, 2010 (and kindly shared with this author), there is no mention of consultations with any of the prominent SSRI experts who may have offered a contrary view. Like Peter Breggin for instance.

The FAA's response to Fiddaman shows the agency has been discussing the policy change since at least 2008. In response to a request for "minutes of meetings where the change in the policy was on the agenda," as well as a list of "members present and a declaration of interests of each of the members," the FAA sent a copy of a July 18, 2008, Memorandum, with a summary from one consultants meeting. Three outside experts attended but there were no declarations of interests, or lack thereof, by anyone at the meeting.

The summary noted that the consultants "unanimously agreed that the concept of allowing certain airmen taking antidepressant medication was reasonable and safe." But the "unanimous consensus" was that only Prozac and Zoloft "were appropriate medications due to the longevity of their use and overall safety."

"They also felt that only these two should be considered initially, and no other medications considered at this time," the summary reported.

In responding to the question of whether the new policy would apply to Air Traffic Controllers, the FAA said the "new policy does not presently apply to Air Traffic Control Specialist (ATCS) because the administrative details of the monitoring and follow-up of these employees are yet to be determined. The plan is that ATCSs will eventually be included in a program of this type."

In response to a request for any information "given to FAA from outside parties that relate to the FAA'S recent change in policy regarding pilots on antidepressant medication," the FAA sent copies of documents received from the Aerospace Medical Association, the Airline Pilots Association Aeromedical Office, the International Airline Pilots Association, and the United States Army.

"In developing the new policy, the FAA also utilized a variety of medical research literature available in the public domain," the response said. "We used internet sites such as, but not limited to: The National Library of Medicine PubMed site and the FDA Medwatch."

The documents Fiddaman received show consideration of a 2003 study of aviation accidents that found SSRIs in 61 pilot fatalities between 1990-2001, in which the psychological condition and/or the drug use was determined to be the cause, or a factor in 16 of the accidents, or 31%.

However, there was no mention of a later November 2006 study titled, "Pilot Medical History and Medications Found in Post Mortem Specimens for Aviation Accidents," led by Dennis Canfield, from the FAA’s Civil Aerospace Medical Institute, in the "Aviation, Space, and Environmental Medicine" journal.

For this study, toxicological evaluations were performed on 4,143 pilots involved in fatal aviation accidents during the period between January 1, 1993, through December 31, 2003, to identify all pilots found positive for medications used to treat cardiovascular, psychological, or neurological conditions.

The evaluations found one-hundred dead pilots with SSRIs in their systems including forty with Prozac, twenty-six with Zoloft, twenty-one with Paxil, and thirteen with Celexa.

Less than a month after the new policy was announced, in "Aviation International News," on May 1, 2010, Matt Thurber reported that in a review of 127 accidents in the NTSB database since 1991, containing the word “antidepressant,” only three were nonfatal.

"In 124 of those accidents, 211 people were killed," Thurber said. "In accident after accident, antidepressants ... were found in the tissues of dead pilots, and the pilots had falsified their medical certificate applications to show that they had never been treated for psychiatric problems."

Drug Free For All

No doubt in large part to Fiddaman's multi-year non-stop campaign to inform the world about the dangers of Paxil, pilots will still not be allowed to use it.

However, some of the people who submitted comments to the FAA on the new policy thought the agency should open up the friendly skies to more psychotropic drug use. For instance, on June 16, 2010, a person commenting under the name, Anonymous, told the FAA: "This review should be expanded to include ADHD medications."

"Many pilots are diagnosed as having ADHD and take medication to assist them. Many of the medications used today to assist adults are derivatives of drugs issued to military pilots to remain alert during missions," Anonymous said. "I strongly encourage the FAA to review the use of ADHD medication so the pilots using medications to manage their symptoms can finally come out of the shadows."

On June 23, Gregorio Guillen wrote and asked: "How about those pilots wanting to take prescription low dose Sertraline to treat premature ejaculation and not necessarily depression?"

Gregorio wants to whether they "are going to be affected by this rule?"

A pilot named, Paul Reed, asked the FAA to: "Please consider allowing migraine treatments with anti-depressants to be included in this rule," on June 17.

But on the other hand, on June 17, Patric Barry wrote: "If the pilot population is permitted to use such medication, the temptation to increase the dose when a pilot is feeling "a little off" is too great a risk - to amend the rules to allow an inch, some pilots will feel compelled to take a mile."

"That is simply an unacceptable risk to the general population and passengers relying on the stability of the pilot group to safeguard and protect public safety," he told the FAA.

Dr Jeffrey Welker also believes it is "a bad idea to allow individuals being treated for depression with medications to hold a current valid medical," and "we should be looking very close at these individuals after treatment for mental stability."

"I base this opinion on my professional and personal observations of 25 years in practice," he said in a comment on June 25.

All of the comments submitted can be found by going to the FAA's Regulations and Policies Web page.

SSRIs Impair Roadways

It makes no sense to put planes full of people at risk by allowing pilots to fly on SSRIs when a study as far back as December 2006, in the "Journal of Clinical Psychiatry," reported that about seven out of every ten people who take antidepressants have impaired driving ability in a car, and 16% have severe motor impairments.

In addition, "reckless driving is one of the most commonly reported adverse effects of antidepressants," Dr Breggin reports.

"After taking antidepressants, disinhibited, agitated or angry drivers find themselves exploding into road rage or using their cars as instruments of suicide," he says. "This is one of the first antidepressants reactions that clinicians like myself began noticing soon after Prozac hit the marketplace."

In his book, "Medication Madness," Dr Breggin describes how an ordinarily calm, model citizen became suicidal on Paxil and drove his car into a helpless policeman in order to knock him over and get his gun so the man could kill himself with it. Although the man seriously injured the cop, he failed to get the gun.

In another case, a man described as kind and gentle turned psychotic while on Zoloft and drove his automobile into a barrier in attempt to kill his passenger wife because he believed her body was harboring an alien beast that wanted to destroy him and all of humanity.

"The other part of this story that the FAA seems to be missing is that for all but the most extreme cases of depression, antidepressant drugs have been scientifically proven — through multiple clinical trials — to work no better than placebo," says Mike Adams in the April 5, 2010 report, "Medicated in the Cockpit."

"These pilots would do just as well taking capsules filled with olive oil as they do on patented, monopoly-priced SSRI drugs," he points out.

The current price of the four SSRIs at DrugStore.com, for 90 pills at a middles dose, is $600 for Prozac, $365 for Zoloft, $320 for Celexa, and $270 for Lexapro. Much to the delight of the SSRI makers, the FAA's new policy will likely encourage pilots to keep paying for their useless drugs forever.

Scathing Review of Glaxo's Avandia Clinical Trial

Image: ceoworld.biz

It's another one of them 'shake your head' moments folks.

The New York Times reported on Friday on GlaxoSmithKline's clinical trials - not Paxil - this time, Avandia.

The Times writes:

Dr. Thomas Marciniak of the Food and Drug Administration, found a dozen instances in which patients taking Avandia appeared to suffer serious heart problems that were not counted in the study’s tally of adverse events.

...Dr. Marciniak’s review of the Record study calls that assertion into question. He found one case in which a seizure patient was hospitalized for bleeding in the brain, but all mention of the episode was deleted from records. Another patient was hospitalized for 67 days after a severe stroke, but the study record showed no sign of a cardiovascular problem.

Still another died after being hospitalized for a serious heart problem, but the death was listed as arising from an unknown cause and not heart-related.

Will this be another slap on the hand for GlaxoSmithKline akin to the one given to them by the British regulator, The MHRA, when, after a four year investigation, they found Glaxo had withheld vital information regarding the use of Seroxat/Paxil in children?

This latest just highlights how important it is for pharmaceutical companies to sell its products - forget the side-effects, they are not important. So what if someone's father, mother, uncle, aunt, child, dies.

The Times article sees the reappearance of Glaxo's Mary Anne Rhyne, they write:

Mary Anne Rhyne, a spokeswoman for GlaxoSmithKline, said the study demonstrated that Avandia is safe and added, “The Record study was conducted according to good clinical practices and the data are reliable.”

Here's what Mary Anne Rhyne said back in 2004 when a lawsuit filed by New York Attorney General Eliot Spitzer accused Glaxo of fraud by withholding negative information and misrepresenting data on prescribing its antidepressant Paxil to children.

"The company has acted responsibly in conducting the studies in pediatric patients and disseminating results. All of our studies have been made available to the (U.S. Food and Drug Administration) and regulators worldwide."

Nobody from GlaxoSmithKline has ever apologised for the Paxil 329 debacle.

I suspect there won't be an apology for this latest Avandia cover-up either.

The FDA Briefing Document, Advisory Committee Meeting for NDA 21071 Avandia, can be downloaded HERE

One of the corporate motto's of GlaxoSmithKline is, "We have a challenging and inspiring mission to improve the quality of human life by enabling people to do more, feel better and live longer."

In other news:

**EXCLUSIVE - SARA CARLIN INQUEST – JURY VERDICT ANALYSIS by Neil Carlin

Image: Sara Carlin

SARA CARLIN INQUEST – JURY VERDICT ANALYSIS

by Neil Carlin

I have had many people contact me and ask why the jury would make such sweeping recommendations if they did not find Paxil, in their verdict, to have a causative role in our daughter’s death. Below, is the answer that I have sent to them.

On the cause of death the presiding Coroner – Dr. Bert Lauwers - instructed the jury as follows:

“.. and I direct you to the expert opinion given by Dr John Fernandez which is exhibit number 4. He was the only person called with respect to giving a medical cause of death you recall that. So I would take his report and use his determinations seriously.”

“He gave the cause of death as hanging by ligature and he put in brackets electrical chord while under the influence of cocaine and ethanol and with therapeutic levels or paroxetine”.

The issue here is the use of the adjective “therapeutic” to describe Sara’s post mortem femoral blood concentration of Paxil – which to ordinary people might imply a clinically effective concentration, We argued prior to the jury charge that – the use of the word therapeutic was misleading and was meant by the toxicologist to indicate that Paxil was not at a concentration consistent with death due to fatal overdose of the drug by itself and nothing more – the actual post-mortem concentration considered to be fatal due to overdose is about 4 times higher than Sara’s.

And that it is obvious in this case that the concentration of Paxil (or any drug) did not cause incapacitation preventing her from fashioning a noose and killing herself. Her concentration of Paxil is actually about 2 times higher than the highest (90th percentile) concentrations observed in therapeutic drug monitoring (TDM) studies. ie. she may be a poor metabolizer of the drug – this is something that could have been determined by the OCCO and was not & is something we are following up on.

He ignored our request to properly instruct the jury on this point.

We are not certain why but “therapeutic levels of paroxetine” was left out of the verdict – perhaps the coroner had a change of mind - which in our view was just as well as it was misleading in any case. The jury would never be allowed to list Paxil as a contributing factor as can be seen below may have implied a legal responsibility or liability directed toward GSK.

On the Manner of death he further instructed the jury to find suicide as follows:

“I think we can dispense with the options of, natural, accident, homicide or undetermined. Suicide is a death resulting from the intentional act of a person knowing the probable consequence of what he or she is about to do that is an action that results in his or her death.”

He does not remotely consider the possibility that under the influence of Paxil, ethanol & cocaine – she would not be capable of understanding the true finality of her violent act.

He then instructed the jury not to blame or assign legal responsibility

“It is one of my responsibilities as presiding coroner to inform you of the laws that apply to your duties as jurors in this inquest. If a verdict does not follow the laws it's regarded an improper verdict. A true verdict required on the coroners (..) is one that must include an answer to each of the five questions that you score on your own. It's in your ability to inquire in the death of Sara Carlin and determine of the evidence presented at the scene in question, her identity, how and where and by what means the deceased came to her death and without partiality or biased toward any person and render a true verdict in accordance with this such evidence. In addition to answering the mandatory questions coroner's acts specifies in section three that a jury shall not make any finding in (... ) responsibility or express any conclusion of law on any matter arising out of the inquest. No one can be found guilty and discussions of criminal responsibility, professional negligence or liability do not have any place in the coroners system or your end. You are also prohibited from making any comment or commendation with indication of the findings.”

We simply asked that along with alcohol and cocaine (toxicology consistent with one recreational dose) Paxil - without being described as therapeutic - be named. The jury was not permitted to do this as it may have implied a finding of liability directed to GSK/Paxil.

So unable to find Paxil as a contributing factor in Sara’s suicide, the jury did the best thing they could and clearly implicated the role of Paxil and lack of proper medical care by the breadth & depth of their recommendations – they could simply have returned a verdict with no recommendations. We absolutely got the very best result that this coroner system could possibly give.

Gardasil/Cervarix... Just how safe are they?

Fascinating interview with three truly wonderful advocates, Christina England, Norma Erickson and Cynthia Janak.

Norma Erickson writes for The Vaccine Examiner and Cynthia Janak, Renew America, whilst Christina England, whom I've featured on this blog on many occasions, writes for Vaccination Truth, The American Chronicle and The Weekly Blitz.

The three women are interviewed by Leslie Botha on her bi-monthly chat show, 'Holy Hormones Honey - The Greatest Story ever Told.'

This interview discusses the two HPV vaccines, Gardasil and Cervarix and the problems and chemistry related to them.

It's a great insight into these two particular vaccines and explains why these three journalists do what they do.

My blog mainly exposes the truth regarding antidepressant medication, in particular, Seroxat/Paxil/Aropax. However, the Cervical Cancer vaccines, Gardasil and Cervarix, are very much under scrutiny as you will learn when listening to Cynthia, Christina and Norma in this fascinating interview.

If you have a daughter and are considering either of these vaccines, you owe it to yourself and your daughter to listen to this interview. - just press 'PLAY' on the media player below.

The Inquest of Sara Carlin and the Moderation of Yahoo Groups

Jeremy Bryce of Strangford
Image courtesy of The Sunday World

During the inquest of Sara Carlin, I strived to report to the best of my ability.

Much of the mainstream reporting of this particular case came from Canada and I saw fit to report on issues that the mainstream media were ignoring. It's all documented on this blog.

During the inquest, this blog's web traffic increased considerably, a good 80% of daily hits coming from all over Canada.

What I didn't expect was the vile behaviour of my obsessive online critic, Jeremy Bryce.

His constant goading on Yahoo Groups throughout the inquest shocked even me.

The three Yahoo Groups Jeremy Bryce was posting on during this time are all supposedly moderated.

I don't know what the motives are of Jeremy Bryce's abhorrent behaviour, but he has, in the past, wrote to GlaxoSmithKline's lawyers in the UK and also the Legal Services Commission with regard to payments made in the UK Seroxat litigation.

It would appear from his fake blog that he is siding with GlaxoSmithKline and believes in their product Paxil [Seroxat in UK] - more about his impersonation of me later.

His online girlfriend, Mardi-Anne Bennett from Blackheath, Colchester, has remained tight-lipped throughout his series of vile posts - maybe she is totally embarrassed by his appalling behaviour or maybe she is pulling his strings, who knows? - More about her later.

In this post I am going to name the Yahoo Groups and moderators who have allowed these series of vile posts through from Jeremy Bryce.

Here is the email I sent to to the moderators:

Posts being allowed through

For Duncan , Mark, Robert - Respective Yahoo Group Moderators.

I am drawing your attention to a series of posts made by Jeremy Bryce who goes by the names of bryce_j_j and jeremy9282 in the Yahoo groups that you all have a duty to moderate.

He has recently been posting about the death of a young girl from Canada, a story that I have been covering since 2008.

Once this inquest is over and the dust has settled. I will be writing an article regarding the abhorrent behaviour of Jeremy Bryce. This article will include links to all three of your forums where the onus is on you all to moderate posts.

At this point, you may want to visit the blog that Jeremy is promoting - http://bobfiddaman.blogspot.com

Once there use the search box at the top left of the screen
.

You will also note, by reading the archives of that blog that Jeremy has posted my home address on 20 separate occasions - that I can live with. You will see that Jeremy Bryce also used to post as 'Bob Fiddaman' - I complained to Blogger and now Jeremy Bryce posts as 'Bob Fiddleman' - notice the subtle change?

By allowing Jeremy's links through on your forum, you are part of the problem, you are part of the pain being caused to Sara Carlin's family and friends.

Reading the posts by Jeremy on your forum over the past week or so has sickened me and I now see he is attacking Terence Young, the MP for Oakville, Ontario. Once again attacking the bereaved from the safety of his computer.

A copy of this will be forwarded to the Carlin family and Terence Young once this inquest is over. I will also offer you, as moderators of these Yahoo groups to comment on the article I write just before I publish it.

This behaviour/obsession must desist for the sake of the Carlin family.

If you see this as an implied threat, it is not.

I am merely giving you an opportunity to research Jeremy's blog and then make an informed decision as to whether you wish to continue to allow his posts through.

I am not going to waste anymore of my time on this issue - if you wish to search your own respective Yahoo forums you will see the offending posts.

I can be contacted at fiddaman64@blueyonder.co.uk if you wish to discuss this matter.

The ball is in your court.

The three Yahoo Groups in question are UK Survivors, Critical Psychiatry and Psychiatry Research

A selection of some of the posts allowed through on Psychiatry Research, a forum moderated by Robert Karl Stonjek [image below]

Psychiatry Research Group Moderator - Robert Karl Stonjek

You will note in some of the posts the need for Jeremy Bryce to highlight certain segments. You will also note that Jeremy Bryce directs readers to a blog he has created - a blog that carries the same name as my blog, where he posts as 'Bob Fiddleman'

http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/psychiatry-research/message/21005

http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/psychiatry-research/message/20766

Here he writes:

How revealing - Terence Young MP settles out of court in 2006 (on terms not revealed) whilst the poor Carlin family take it to the wire !

There are more posts that moderator Robert Karl Stonjek has allowed through, despite being told of Jeremy's fake blog.

Robert Karl Stonjek resides in Tasmania. His LinkedIn profile lists him as an 'independent researcher'

Next is the Yahoo Group, Critical Psychiatry, moderated by Duncan Double [See Image below]

Duncan Double is Consultant Psychiatrist, Norfolk and Waveney Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust and Honorary Senior Lecturer, School of Medicine, Health Policy and Practice, University of East Anglia. His homepage can be found HERE

Critical Psychiatry Group Moderator, Duncan Double

Again, the majority of Jeremy Bryce's posts on this forum direct people to his fake SEROXAT SUFFERERS blog. Again Bryce has highlighted certain bits of press cuttings to fit in with his irrational thoughts.

http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/criticalpsychiatry/message/62723

There are many more, the majority of which lead to Jeremy Bryce's fake blog.

Finally, the Yahoo Group, UK Survivors, moderated by Mark Roberts.

Once again you will note Jeremy Bryce highlighting various bits of text that he has cut and pasted from articles - you will also note that once again Jeremy directs people to his fake blog.

Again, there are many more.

Jeremy Bryce is from Ballyhornan in Northern Ireland, he is vast approaching 60 years of age and, it seems, has nothing better to do than goad using the death of a young girl.

Bryce, separated from his long term live-in partner and three children some time ago.

He went public in an Irish newspaper claiming that he had been bullied out of his village' - However, the stories he spun on UK Survivors were somewhat different to the story he told in the Irish newspaper, The Sunday World.

The moderator of Psychiatry Research, Robert Karl Stonjek, can be emailed HERE

The moderator of Critical Psychiatry, Duncan Double, can be emailed HERE

The moderator of UK Survivors, Mark Roberts, can be emailed HERE

All of the above, along Jeremy Bryce, are responsible for using the death of a young girl to be used as some sick point scoring game.

Yahoo Groups Terms and Abuse, will also be sent a copy of this post.

Thus far two of the moderator's have responded to my initial email to them.

I received the following response from Robert Karl Stonjek, moderator of Psychiatry Research:

Bob,
you'll have to take this up with Jeremy ~ I don't have the time to police messages. I check only that news messages are relevant and that discussions remain reasonably civil.

Robert

Robert Karl Stonjek did add that he had told Jeremy not to post any more links that had my name in the url. When asked if he was going to remove the links already posted on his forum regarding the inquest of Sara Carlin, he simply answered.

"No"

Robert Karl Stonjek is the owner and/or Moderator of several academic discussion forums (total membership of over 7,000) including Evolutionary Psychology; Evolutionary Psychology News; Cognitive Neuroscience, Mind and Brain, Consciousness; Psychiatry Research, Physical Sciences and Climate Change Forum.

Robert Karl Stonjek can be friend requested on Facebook HERE

Mark Roberts, moderator of the Yahoo forum, UK Survivors, told me that he too would ban Jeremy Bryce from posting any more links to the bobfiddaman.blogspot. He also made some helpful suggestions to me.

Duncan Double, moderator of Critical Psychiatry, failed to respond.

I have grown to live with Jeremy Bryce accusing me of being a benefit cheat, a Scientologist, a thug, even associating me with Gary Glitter because I once spent 4 nights in Bangkok. What I find totally abhorrent is Bryce using the death of a teenage girl at a time when her parents, sister and other family members were struggling to deal with the daily goings-on at the inquest.

What I find more abhorrent is the failure of Yahoo Group moderators to police their groups. They are as much to blame as he.

The posts by Jeremy Bryce remain on all three groups as do his attacks on various other Seroxat/Paxil activists.

Jeremy Bryce is apparently the list owner and moderator of his own Yahoo Group - SSRI CRUSADERS - It's a closed shop and you are vetted if you want to enlist. He has been posting the same links in there too.

The reigns were handed over to Jeremy Bryce by former co-founder of SSRI Crusaders, Cassandra Dawn Casey, Director, ASPIRE Academy. SSRi Crusdaers was formed by Cassandra and Charles Groenendijk.

If you research the archives you will see posts from 'Tuesday1st, Jeremy's online girlfriend, real name, Mardi-Anne Bennett from Blackheath, Colchester, UK.

You will also note a post from Jeremy Bryce dated Aug 25, 2008
New Fiddaman Blog " SEROXAT SUFFERER EXPOSED "
SEROXAT SUFFERER EXPOSED http://www.bobfiddaman.blogspot.com/ - the original name for Jeremy's fake blog - he later changed the name to SEROXAT SUFFERERS STAND UP AND BE COUNTED - The same as my blog.

The Fiddaman obsession continues HERE which sees Jeremy, who remember is the list owner of SSRi Crusaders, post links to his shadow blog.

The list owner/s of SSRI CRUSADERS can be contacted HERE

I am shocked to see Jeremy Bryce stoop to such a level of trying to direct people to his fake SEROXAT SUFFERERS blog by using the death of a young girl. What's even more perplexing is the following from his fake blog, "Fiddaman - The Evidence, However is clear, using the dead to create interest." He then proceeds to post [cut and paste] articles from the Canadian press.

For an example of how both Bryce and his girlfriend, Mardi Bennett operate, check out this thread.

It see's Jeremy Bryce posting about Panorama and Seroxat. Steph Gatchell, who appeared on Panorama is also a member of SSRI CRUSADERS. Steph's daughter, Sharise hanged herself whilst on Seroxat. Judge for yourselves Mardi Bennett's reaction to Steph Gatchell defending Panorama and ask yourself why Mardi Bennett has such a disdain, it would appear, to Panorama, Seroxat and solicitors involved in the UK Seroxat litigation.

In a another post Jeremy is seen attacking Steph Gatchell with regard to Panorama and their coverage of Seroxat.

Steph-

Here on this board; "way out in space looking back" ……. some people still miss points unless they are spelled out …….

In the UK (& Ireland) Laywers, their PR firms & associated hangers on, have primed and used ………. publicly funded influential programs – the media – journalists - politicians - `supposed' support group owners ….. to single out and keep the focus on just one drug –

CHOOSING to IGNORE received information – documents and pleas to widen the issue and name ALL the drugs in the class ……..

How many parents have lost their children to drugs OTHER than Seroxat since the first Panorama program was aired ……..

How many parents have lost their children to drugs OTHER than Seroxat since the GSK litigation was instigated ……

Other very UNNECESSARY tragedies that possibly WOULD HAVE been avoided had ALL the drugs in the class been CLEARLY identified by NAME during reporting .......

and

How many parents are yet to loose their children because of the selfish Seroxat mafia ?

Steph's response kind of hits the nail firmly on the head:

What an unfair, vicious, cruel, insulting personal attack! I'm speechless..

Hardly something one would expect from a List Owner and moderator..

Clearly you haven't read my previous posts properly!

I made it very clear how I feel about the SSRI-issue as a whole, why I belong to this group.

This intense personal vendetta of yours against all people involved in the Seroxat issue is very hard to comprehend..

It's obsessive, unhealthy and energy mis spent.

If there was such a thing as tact, then it would appear that Colchester's Mardi Bennett and Strangford's Jeremy Bryce do not know how to use it.

Yet another example of the pair of them showing a complete lack of empathy toward those that are grieving the loss of a loved one - that's my take anyhow and if I were a gambling man I would bet that both Jeremy Bryce and Mardi Bennett would never say the things they do online face to face with one of their victims.

If either Bennett or Bryce wish to comment they can do so on here, in full view of everyone and not behind the safety of a forum co-owned by Jeremy Bryce!

I'm guessing that they won't. Cowards rarely venture away from the safety of their comfort zone.

You can view the Panorama thread here where Colchester's Mardi Bennett speaks of her Seroxat conspiracies to the grieving Stephanie Gatchell, here

Everyone who has been mentioned in this post all have the right of reply in the comment section of this blog. I think it best we get things out in the open.

Jeremy Bryce has, it appears, a history of lies and deceit. He has used it to manipulate members of many Yahoo forums, whether to gain some sort of support for his delusions or to gain sympathy for his apparent bad time on a whole host of prescription medications.

An example of Jeremy Bryce 'indecisiveness' can be viewed here:

Here we have the classic line from Bryce's post on Sat Jun 7, 2003 , "Nobody can tell me exactly what damage has been caused to my skin by Seroxat nor indeed will there ever be a cure."

Two months earlier he had wrote, "I don't take Seroxat"

Then this photo Jeremy uploaded to the UK Survivors file section in 2005.

Headline of the photo?

"My feet damaged by Efexor"

The SSRI Crusaders tagline is - "Exposing The Truth"

Kind of ironic don't you think?

The UK Survivors tagline is - "Mental health user/survivors, disabled people and allies in the UK to debate, get/give support and network together."

There are many more instances of Jeremy's lying and impersonating of other people online. One such instance is his impersonation of a Catholic priest, Fr Sean Gilmore, from his hometown of Strangford. This thread, from a Northern Ireland buy & sell forum, sees Jeremy chastise a local resident for selling bric-a-brac items online - he does so under the guise of Fr Sean Gilmore.

Some years later would see Jeremy Bryce upload this appalling image to the UK Survivors Forum.

To bully a grieving mother is abominable - that was bad enough.

Now, Jeremy has moved on and has decided to target the memory of Sara Carlin.

Here's a list of some of the other advocates and family's Jeremy Bryce has exploited on his shadow blog.

Investigative Journalist, Evelyn Pringle [LINK]

Effexor victim, baby Matthew Schultz [LINK]

David Healy [LINK]

Peter Breggin [LINK]

Paxil activist, Rob Robinson [LINK]

Seroxat User Group Owner, Janice Simmons [LINK]

Furious Seasons author, Phil Dawdy [LINK]

Panorama presenter and Investigative journalist, Shelly Jofre [LINK]

Mother of Seroxat suicide victim, Sharise Gatchell [LINK]

The Citizens Commission on Human Rights [LINK]

Baum Hedlund, US Paxil Lawyers [LINK]

Mark Harvey, UK Seroxat solicitors [LINK]

My son, Gary [LINK]

And here, Jeremy really loses the plot with the eye catching headlines:

'They wouldn't allow Gary Glitter into Bangkok but they allow Fiddaman'. Nice huh?

ahhhhhhhh so Fiddaman is a Gary Glitter fan - that explains a lot !!

Gary Glitter (loved by Fiddaman) - Thailand vows to ensure disgraced star returns to UK

Why was Bob in Thailand & why is he so touchy about "leader of the gang" Gary Glitter

Ironic then that Jeremy Bryce would openly post about Strangford residents calling him a paedophile back in 2003 on the UK Survivors forum!

If you have ever slammed Paxil, he has probably wrote something about you. Use the search box at the top left of his blog - it's quite an insight into the mind of Jeremy Bryce.

Jeremy Bryce's fake SEROXAT SUFFERERS blog can be viewed here - you will note his desire to promote three of his online girlfriend's blogs, all of which are mentioned below. You may also note his side bar where more links will tell you of the state of Jeremy Bryce's mind.

Jeremy Bryce can be emailed HERE

His online girlfriend, Mardi Bennett from Colchester has three blogs. The first can be viewed here, interesting to note the title of her lead post.

Her second blog can be viewed here, once again her lead story is about her fixation with the UK Seroxat litigation.

The third, details her emails to the MHRA and can be viewed here

I've previously wrote about this incredulous pair here, 'Stalkers Request Information from MHRA' and Phil Dawdy, another target of Jeremy Bryce, wrote about them here, 'Blogger On Paxil's Dangers Draws Weird Attention.'

For the record, Jeremy Bryce first started targeting me as his object of obsession in 2006. [SEE PDF Page 8]

Jeremy Bryce, Mardi Bennett, Duncan Double, Mark Roberts and Robert Karl Stonjek each have the right of reply here.

A public apology would be a start.

Sadly, Sara Carlin and Sharise Gatchell do not have the option of rebutting themselves to Messrs Bryce and Bennett.

**If you are going to leave a comment on this post then please use your real name. I won't be allowing anonymous comments through for this particular post. You may wish to drop your surname and just replace it with an initial as Jeremy Bryce has, in the past, targeted many that have left comments on my blog.

I anticipate that many of the links provided in this post may be pulled by the moderators mentioned above and also on Jeremy's shadow blog, if complaints are made to the host, Blogger.

**Update: - The cyber-stalking bully now has a 'Fiddaman_parody' twitter account.

**Update - Both Jeremy Bryce and Mardi Bennett have denied being behind a new anti-Bob Fiddaman blog HERE.

**Update - Here, Jeremy Bryce mocks the mother of suicide victim, Toran Henry.

** Update - Here, Jeremy Bryce mocks suicide victim , Shane Clancy.

**Update -  Jeremy Bryce informs members of Yahoo group, SSRi Crusaders, that my blog is infected with a virus and links me in with a child sex ring. HERE

**Update - The Twitter accounts JeremyBryceJoke and BryceWillStalkU have not been created by me, despite the claims of Jeremy Bryce

** Update - On March 27, 2011, Mardi Bennett, posting as 'Tuesday1st', promoted the new anti-Fiddaman blog on the Yahoo forum Critical Psychiatry

Sara Carlin Inquest - 'Setting The Record Straight'

There's a great editorial from yesterday's Oakville Beaver regarding the Jury's recommendations in the Sara Carlin inquest [See PDF below]

It touches on the decisions made by the 5 person jury, in particular the call for the creation of a province wide drug information system, a provincial and national suicide prevention program and a national independent drug safety board, which would report to Parliament.

The editorial also points out that these list of recommendations will all be for nothing if the government fails to implement them and points out that some of these recommendations were also made by the jury at the inquest into the death of Vanessa Young (MP for Oakville, Terence Young's daughter) and never acted upon.

Download Editorial

The Oakville Beaver also yesterday published a letter from the parents of Sara Carlin, Neil and Rhonda.

The letter is with regard to the Oakville Beaver's reporting of the inquest.

The Carlin's make some interesting points about 'expert' witness, Dr. David Juurlink.

As reported by the Beaver, Coroner’s expert Dr. David Juurlink (who is not trained, qualified or licenced to practice psychiatry) said most suicides and side effects from Paxil occur within the first few weeks and months after a person starts taking it. Sara had been taking the drug for more than a year before her death.

Presumably, this lack of temporality being the primary reason for his opinion that Sara’s suicide was not Paxil-related.

We believe Dr. Juurlink’s evidence on this point to be extremely disingenuous. The US FDA Paxil product monographs clearly state: “clinical worsening, suicidality, and unusual changes in behaviour, especially during the initial few months of a course of drug therapy, or at times of dose changes, either increases or decreases.”

The full statement can be read HERE

Juurlink was called as the Coroner's Counsel expert witness, he didn't believe that Paxil caused Sara to kill herself.

As I pointed out in my earlier reporting on this inquest, Juurlink is or was an internist and Head of the Division of Clinical Pharmacology and Toxicology at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre in Toronto. [LINK]

The Sunnybrook Foundation rely on donations - in 2008 GlaxoSmithKline donated $140,000. [LINK]

Juurlink is or was also a Medical Toxicologist at the Ontario Regional Poison Information Centre at the Hospital for Sick Children.

In 2008 GlaxoSmithKline donated $625,000 GlaxoSmithKline to Hospital for Sick Children. [LINK]

I consider Juurlink's statement/opinion quite unprofessional. I also fear that the Oakville Beaver's reporting, and lack of understanding with regard to Paxil and its withdrawal problems, quite unbalanced. I do, however, applaud them for allowing the Carlin's the chance to rebut and to set the record straight.

There is a desperate need for an independent regulatory drugs panel, not only in Canada but globally too, if only for the reasons above.

Information provided by 'experts' and the media should be cross-checked. Juurlink's opinion did not tally with the Paxil monograph, something the Oakville Beaver should have pointed out in their original article. The Beaver also failed to mention that Juurlink is not trained, qualified or licenced to practice psychiatry therefore, I believe, the Beaver gave a false representation and mislead the public with their reporting.

Once again, it has taken the parents of a deceased child to point out the facts, something that journalists writing for the Beaver should have done before printing and disseminating information to the Canadian public.

In my final post on the Sara Carlin inquest I will be naming and shaming the activities and abhorrent behaviour of a list owner of a Yahoo Group. This despicable man has been using the death of Sara Carlin to promote and direct people to a blog he created that basically criticises everyone and anyone that has ever spoken out against Paxil. What's abhorrent is that this sick individual wants people [readers] to believe that I am the author. His blog is the same name as this one, his url is all but the same as this one and he posts as 'Bob Fiddleman'.

He will be outed, as will his online girlfriend, who has in the past, shown a complete lack of tact concerning the mother of another teenager who died from hanging as a result of Paxil usage.

Later this month I will be uploading the 58 page document sent to me by the Federal Aviation Administration, it's in connection with SSRi usage in pilots and stems from a Freedom of Information request sent to me a few weeks ago.

At some point I will gather all of the Sara Carlin articles I have wrote during the course of her inquest and beyond and make them available as a pdf download.

Once all of the above is in place I will be taking a hiatus from blogging. This is something that I have considered long and hard over the past few months or so. There are many reasons for this which I will explain at a later date.

I've been writing about Paxil/Seroxat for over 4 years. This blog is approaching 200,000 hits so I think the message is getting out regarding the way SSRi's, in particular Paxil,Seroxat, are regulated.

For now, I have much to do with my book, omissions and additions to get it ready for its paperback release later this year.

I also have to prepare myself for some "me" time - September this year sees my eldest son heading off to Afghanistan to fight for his country, worrying times ahead and a time for me, as a parent, to collect my thoughts and run alongside my son in the battle zones of Afghanistan [in the spiritual sense]

I'll still use Facebook to chat with my friends but will be disconnecting myself from forums I am subscribed to in the field of mental health.

Anyway, more about this at a later date.

2008 Mount Airy Plane Crash Report - "Pilot had the drug Zoloft in his system"

News 14 Carolina is running a short article with regard to a report that has just surfaced about a plane crash in 2008.

They write:

The National Transportation Safety Board issued a report on the probably cause of a 2008 plane crash in Mount Airy that killed everyone on board. The plane stalled and crashed while circling after an aborted landing.

The NTSB says the pilot failed to maintain control of the plane during instrument flying conditions and deliberately went below the minimum descent altitude.

Officials say the pilot “displayed non-professional behavior” and that a cockpit voice recording showed that he began singing, “Save my life, I'm going down for the last time” after being cleared for approach.

Toxicology tests revealed that the pilot had the drug Zoloft in his system, and medical records revealed he had been treated for anxiety and depression. The report also said it's not clear whether the medical conditions could account for the behavior or whether they contributed to the accident.

The last para is of significance here.

Back in April I wrote to the Federal Aviation Administration [FAA] under the terms of the Freedom of Information Act. [FOI]

I was concerned because the FAA had, for some time, some time not allowed pilots on antidepressant medications to fly. However, a new proposal wished to now lift this ban... but only on 4 SSRi type medications - Fluoxetine [Prozac], Sertraline [Zoloft], Citalopram [Celexa], or Escitalopram [Lexapro] [BACK STORY]

I have been sitting on the 58 page document the FAA sent me for sometime now.

Once the dust has settled on the Sara Carlin Inquest that I have been writing about, I will be writing about the FOI request the FAA sent me. I will also offer the 58 page document for download.

There are a few things I want to get off my chest before I start writing about the FAA - One in particular involves quite a few people who own/moderate Yahoo Groups and the way in which they have allowed a series of vile posts through in relation to the Sara Carlin inquest and the appalling behaviour of two very sad individuals with regard to a lack of tact shown to, not only the parents of Sara Carlin but to the mother of Sharise Gatchell, another teenager who hanged herself whilst on Paxil [UK brand name Seroxat]

I will be naming the groups, the moderators and the two heartless individuals who have targeted grieving parents. More on this and the FAA at a later date.
